?? THE DEAL ?? Relationships matter. Especially when it comes to learning. In their first GROW tutoring session, a group of three 6th-grade students started talking about Messi. Victoria, their tutor, wasn’t a soccer (football) fan and didn’t know much about the sport. She saw this as an opportunity and brokered a deal with them. They would teach her about soccer, and she would teach them about math. Over the course of the program, they all learned. Not only did Victoria walk away with a clear understanding that Messi is, in fact, the GOAT, and Ronaldo is "washed up," but all three students gained over one grade level in their math skills.
