?? New Research Alert! ?? The GaetaLab are excited to share great findings from our latest study published in Veterinary Research Communications from Springer Nature Group titled “Genomic analysis of the first multidrug-resistant ESBL-producing high-risk clonal lineage Klebsiella pneumoniae ST147 isolated from a cat with urinary tract infection.” ???? Here, we reported the first case of a high-risk clone, multidrug-resistant (MDR) Klebsiella pneumoniae ST147 causing a urinary tract infection in a house cat in Brazil. The whole genome sequencing revealed several antimicrobial-resistance genes, including the clinically-relevant blaCTX-M-15, blaTEM-1B, blaSHV-11, and blaOXA-1, highlighting the strain’s resistance profile. Our research highlights the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health because MDR Klebsiella pneumoniae is a major public health concern due to its ability to resist multiple antibiotics, making infections difficult to treat.
