IF YOU ARE AN INDIE DEVELOPER, HERE'S WHY YOU SHOULD HIRE INTERNS Time for July's progress report! I am so proud of all the hard work my team and I have done over the last two weeks. Seeing the artists and programmers take the world I have constructed and letting them add levels of detail I never even thought of has been such an emotional experience. Walking through the map is exciting to me again; there are new things to see, and cans are finally getting picked and binned instead of being kicked further down the street. I cannot emphasize enough how awesome this is. Having a producer to keep you on track helps with your anxiety because you know things are being logged and tasks will get done. Having additional well-rounded artists means progress can be made on the game's visuals. Sound designers make every punch feel more impactful, and having a programmer that works alongside you means bugs are being handled while you continue your directorial responsibilities. Being a director is a lot of hard work too. You need to document everything and have very strong communication skills to ensure your team executes your vision and avoids mottainai. You need to be available and capable of communicating with each of your team members and still be able to finish your assignments on time. But, it's SO much fun. Every day I spend with my interns, I can feel our rhythm picking up, and I can't wait to see what we cook up together! Just more proof that hiring and contracting work on your projects to students and recent graduates only does good things for the industry. Major studios might not be offering reasonable entry-level jobs, but we can give these talented individuals a chance to shine and grow. #indierevolution #indiegames #gamedev #MoleMaiden #hiringinterns #gamingindustry
