??Exciting Hands-On Learning Experience at Polpitiya New Grid Substation !.?? As a trainee electrical engineer, I recently had the opportunity to observe and participate in the testing of a disconnector switch at a grid substation. During the functional tests, we manually and motor-operated the switch to ensure smooth opening and closing, checked for unusual resistance or noises, and verified the proper functioning of all electrical and mechanical interlocks. Additionally, In the electrical tests, we measured the contact resistance with a micro-ohmmeter to confirm good contact, used an insulation resistance tester to check the insulation between contacts and ground, and conducted a high-potential (Hi-Pot) test to verify the insulation strength. These tests are crucial for ensuring the reliability and safety of the disconnector switch, which is essential for maintaining grid stability and operational safety. This hands-on experience has greatly enhanced my understanding of substation operations and safety protocols. #PracticalLearning #safety #FunctionalTests #SubstationOperations #SafetyProtocols.

The best way to develop as an engineer is to respect and learn from Technicians, Operators, Maintenance workers, Repair Crews etc. These people of interdisciplinary technical expertise have a wealth of knowledge, experience-wise ready to be discovered but only through the correct approaches. These are the people you will be working and interacting with them almost every single day in your working life. Maintaining respect and positive communication in approaching them will enable you to learn a lot from them. The knowledge you gain from these people widens your perspectives and will improve and enhance your engineering work. Proper team working is based on positive relationship where every member of the team feel valued and hence contribute meaningfully. Being an engineer does not mean you will have to look down on non-engineer members. We are a team and everyone is equally important in their own aspects of work and must be treated with utmost respect. On the same note, graduates who begin their career from the bottom-up always look up to these very people as their mentors as they provide them support and show them the right direction for their career path. #engineering #mechanical #motivation #engineers #teamwork

I took a You Science Aptitude test it taught me many things about myself. I learned that I test well under pressure and it doesn′t take me long to figure out how to solve a problem. Another thing it taught me was that even when something as small as a set of 5 minute tests can really show me what I can work to improve on. My personal approach when working in groups is to always take in an outside perspective, and to not get stuck on one idea because I can′t accept criticism as a builder. Types of work that interest me are being in a manual labor field such as Electrician, Mechanic, and even cell tower construction. I also am interested in the design field such as developing technology to make life easier. lastly I am interested in the marketing aspect of work which includes talking to people and handling money issues. The 3 careers I match with are Telecommunication construction, oil and drill manager, and a pharmaceutical technician. This is what I have learned from the YouScience Aptitude Tests.
