As the text says, the courage to question is essential. But we can only integrate tools like this if our basic data infrastructure is absolutely rock solid. After a decade of slashed budgets, we can't just tinker at the edges of the current systems because the foundation will struggle. A national approach to AI integration is required. There isn't the expertise within each force to really assess how these tools work. And the work to integrate with myriad different local setups will be costly and risky. First job is to make sure the existing data is solid.

Merseyside Police , like many police forces around the country is facing a huge demand for its services. The challenge? Processing the high volumes of emergency 999 calls that they receive daily. In just one year, their call handlers respond to over 300K calls, and of these, 150K are classed as ‘uncategorised’. Meaning that they aren’t emergencies, but they should still be followed up. The difficulty is that the callers can be highly emotional, making it extremely difficult for the call handlers to obtain the information they need to follow up on the call. Join us for our live webinar to discover how: ?? AI is helping the police process the calls to deliver a better experience for the public ?? Technology can support your contact centre staff and help them manage their wellbeing ?? Machine learning is helping the police aid victims of crime quicker and more efficiently ?? AI can help your organisation make more informed decisions Don’t miss the live Q&A at the end, where you’ll have the opportunity to quiz our AI experts, and a special guest speaker, Stephen Smith, from Merseyside Police! Event details: ?? Monday 8th July from 10:00 - 11:00, BST ?? Online Register here: https://zurl.co/4Fdw #policing #data #AI

?? We are proud to announce that AI4INTERVIEWS has been invited to present at the Policing in the Digital Society Conference 2024/2025: Opportunities and Challenges in Digital Policing – Theoretical and Practical Perspectives. This conference takes place at Northumbria Law School in Newcastle from January 22–24, 2025. Our talk, titled “Evaluating Suitability of Speech-to-Text AI Models for Transcribing Real Police Investigative Interviews,” will delve into how cutting-edge speech-to-text technology can be leveraged for transcribing police investigative interviews with precision and efficiency. ?? Project Background - This journey began earlier this year as we tested 50 carefully selected interview files, spanning cases of violent crime and homicide, economic crime, and child abuse. The dataset was strategically curated to ensure diversity in age, gender, dialects and dialogue speed. This test data allowed us to evaluate the performance and accuracy of speech-to-text models. ?? Acknowledgments and Insights - We extend our heartfelt thanks to the investigators and transcribers who contributed to this effort. Your opinions, detailed feedback and participation in the questionnaires and in producing the “ground truth” were invaluable! ?? Following the transcription phase, our great colleagues Thomas Beka and Kyle Andrew Porter, PhD conducted both qualitative and quantitative analyses to evaluate the models’ performance and the participants opinions. The findings have set a strong foundation for continuing our work and advancing the practical use of AI in digital policing. Furthermore, the research design I strongly believe we will "repeat" and fine-tune in the future. ?? This marks an important milestone for the project, and we’re excited to continue contributing to the evolving conversation around innovation in law enforcement. We hope to see you at the conference ?? #LawEnforcement #InvestigativeInterviews #Investigation #AI-innovation #AI4INTERVIEWS? https://lnkd.in/dyYFfuvP
