Influencers and everyday users alike should be aware of licensing requirements around music. Instagram’s library limits music use to protect rightsholders. However, the use of songs in the Instagram music library are specific to IG only and does not necessarily cover use outside the platform. That means if you want to use music from IG in a different context such as YouTube or on a podcast, you may need to obtain a separate license. #copyright #musiclicensing #IP

Why you currently cannot watch/listen to some of your favorite music on YouTube... The performing rights organization ?????????? and ?????????????? have not been able to renew or renegotiate their U.S. licensing agreement. Songs by???????????, ?????? ??????????, ?????????? ??????, ??.??.??., ???????? ??' ??????????, ???????? and potentially thousands of other artists are currently not available to play on the platform. A YouTube rep. recently told Variety... “???? ???????? ???????? ???????? ?????????? ???????????????????????? ???????? ?????????? ???? ?????????? ?????? ???????????????? ????????. ??????????????????????????, ?????????????? ?????? ???????? ??????????????, ???? ???????? ???????????? ???? ?????????? ???? ?????????????????? ?????????????????? ???????????? ?????? ????????????????????. ???? ???????? ?????????????????? ???????? ?????????????????? ?????? ???? ?? ????????????, ?????????????? ?????????????????????? ???? ?????????? ???? ???? ???????????? ?????????????????? ???? ?????????????? ???? ?????? ????. ???? ?????? ???? ???????????? ?????????????????????????? ???????? ?????????? ?????? ?????? ???????????? ???? ?????????? ?? ?????? ???????? ???? ???????? ???? ????????????????.” Although a lot of media outlets are comparing?this to the previous ?????????????????? ?????????? ?????????? vs ???????????? dispute, SESAC currently represents ??.???? ?????????? and YouTube has an estimated ??.???? ?????????? ?????? ?????????? which is more than double TikTok's reported monthly users. How long will it take for some of your favorite songs to be available again on YouTube? Time will tell based on continued negotiations considering YouTube nor SESAC seem to have an answer just yet. YouTube has introduced an upgraded tool that allows creators to easily remove copyrighted music from their videos while keeping other audio like dialogue and sound effects intact. Neal Mohan, CEO of YouTube, announced the tool, stating it helps creators remove copyright-claimed music without affecting the rest of their video's audio. The platform has been testing this tool for some time and has now improved its ability to accurately delete copyrighted music using AI-powered algorithms. However, YouTube warns that in some cases, particularly with difficult-to-remove songs, the tool may not completely eliminate the copyrighted music. In such instances, creators can explore options like muting the claimed segments or trimming them out. This tool aims to help creators manage copyright issues on the platform effectively, providing alternatives to removing or muting audio flagged by YouTube's copyright detection system. #YouTubeTool #CopyrightRemoval #ContentCreators #AIAlgorithm #DigitalContent #YouTubeUpdates #CopyrightProtection #ContentCreation #VideoEditing #Cohortmax

Two big legal developments this week, both involving the fundamental questions of: Who owns what? Who has the right to do what? Are you actually who you say you are? These three "simple" questions continually plague the music industry. We designed Switchchord to enable digital trust in answering each. Eight Mile Style case (Who owns what? Today I learned that music can cost more than your entire marketing budget... In a big lesson for social media managers everywhere, Chili's??? is facing a hefty lawsuit from Universal Music Group?? for using unlicensed tracks in their social media ads. The restaurant chain allegedly featured songs from artists like Ariana Grande, ABBA, The Weeknd, and more across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube—without paying for the rights. Now, they’re staring down the possibility of paying up to $12 million in damages for 80 copyright violations. Yes. $12 Million. For a company that has reported over $4 Billion in turnover throughout the fiscal year, it is nothing; but for smaller businesses this can be end of the road. UMG’s lawsuit shows the importance of staying on top of music licensing, even for social media. Just because a song is trending doesn’t mean you can use it without permission or the rights. Social media managers, this is your reminder to always ensure your content is 100% legally sound ;) ?? #MusicLicensing #SocialMedia #Copyright #MarketingTips #BrandMistakes101 Source: Music Business Worldwide
