? It's been over 1.5 years since we were given the mandate to identify and execute the City of Port Phillip #Public Space Strategy #acquisitions, primarily by deploying the Open Space contributions.
? After countless hours of reviews, briefings, research, visits, negotiations, unanimous resolutions to proceed, and then more negotiations, we have successfully acquired over 17,000 m2 of #property across the municipality.
?? Further, unlike our peers in the growth areas, as an inner-city #Council, we can't create much needed new public open space out of thin air by paying peanuts. ??
?? Considering that 97% of these acquisitions were off-market voluntary, 1.6% were on-market, and 1.4% were compulsory, it clearly demonstrates our preference and ability to make reasonable win-win deals.
?? It's been an eye-opening journey, as it turns out that the Highest and Best Use is not what some lame and stale spreadsheets say it is, but actually what the #community decides it is.
? Being one of the most densely populated yet one of the most livable #LGA in the #State doesn't happen by accident. It happens with rigorous research, extensive collaboration, and relentless execution, which we aim to continue progressing further.
