"At Life Pieces To Masterpieces, we have always believed that it is not about us giving power to our boys and young men, but, rather, we believe that they have the innate creative ability to transform their lives and to enact positive change in their communities and their world." Continuing our recognition of Leaders of the Future, The Community Foundation is highlighting the work and mission of peacemakers who are working to empower children, youth and adults to build stronger, safer communities. We asked Life Pieces To Masterpieces to share how they are empowering young men through mentorship and creativity. https://ow.ly/8yHF50SoKxP

This Black History Month, we’re celebrating the changemakers transforming the futures of young people of Black African and Caribbean heritage. To kick things off, we’re spotlighting ACCESS UK, an organisation dedicated to addressing the critical issue of Black youth unemployment. Through its impactful initiatives, ACCESS UK is not only changing the narrative but amplifying the voices of countless young people across London, providing them with the opportunities and support needed to thrive. One of their flagship initiatives, the Operation Black Employment (OBE) programme, is tackling the urgent crisis of Black youth unemployment by helping young people access meaningful job opportunities. Although currently operating on a smaller scale, OBE has already made a significant impact, with plans to expand its reach and create even greater change across London. https://lnkd.in/eeHknUnB Another standout programme, ‘Road 2 CEO,’ equips young people who have been involved with the youth justice system with entrepreneurial skills to successfully re-enter society and launch their own businesses. We’re proud to spotlight ACCESS UK as the first organisation in our Black History Month series. Their incredible work is empowering young people to rewrite their own stories, break down barriers, and create lasting opportunities for success. ACCESS UK is leading the way toward a brighter future, one entrepreneur at a time. Nana Agyeman FRSA #BlackHistoryMonth #ReclaimingNarratives #YouthEmpowerment #ChangingTheNarrative

Let’s Go.
Last week, Major League Soccer's Player Engagement Team Chidozie Ibeabuchi, MBA, Francesca Del Monte, Tor Saunders, Victor D. Kidd, together with MLS Greats (former players), kicked off our month-long program focused on enhancing player education around intercultural awareness for the second consecutive year. One of the highlights of the Playing As One Training for me has been witnessing players, coaches, and technical staff candidly discuss the stereotypes that have hindered their experiences. We believe that fostering safe spaces for sharing personal stories—especially in the realm of sports—will significantly contribute to building mutual respect and a culture of inclusion. Facilitating such a sensitive topic in front of 30 players, coaches and technical staff is no small feat, yet it’s essential for nurturing leadership that actively combats racism and homophobia in our sport. A special shout-out goes to Sola Winley, MLS’s Executive Vice President, Chief Engagement Officer, as well as our members from the non-profit Black Players for Change - Justin Morrow and Allen Hopkins Jr.. Bringing a training program like this to life is no small task. As we commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, let us reflect on and honor his enduring legacy of equality and justice for all.

As the year comes to a close and we reflect on the impact we've made, we are excited to share the inspiring moments from the 6th You(th) Lead Conference, hosted by our community partner, the Pinball Foundation. Our partnership with PCF aligns with our Labour Market Intervention Strategy (LMIS), aimed at addressing systemic barriers and creating pathways for Black, equity-denied, and justice-involved youth to access educational and career opportunities. At the conference, our post-secondary students and alumni, through speed mentorship sessions, networked with industry leaders and executives from various sectors and industries, gaining valuable career advice and insights. It was empowering to see our current students interact with alumni, whose success stories serve as a powerful testament to the transformative impact of education and the expanded opportunities provided by #YAAACE. The Children's Defense Fund’s theory of change calls CDF into ongoing conversation with the communities we serve to build a comprehensive policy agenda for child well-being. Our numerous discussions with CDF Freedom Schools scholars, parents, and youth leaders; faith organizers; and young people in our Black Student Leadership Network collectively painted a vivid picture of the world we want for our youth. This policy agenda, presented at CDF’s 50th Anniversary celebration in November, presents these aspirations and illuminates the policy paths to achieve them. It recognizes that children themselves cannot be the only locus of intervention for their well-being. Their life outcomes are first impacted by the environments, families, school systems and neighborhoods in which they sing, dance, and play. Transforming our communities--from national to local--will create the conditions in which all young people grow up with dignity, hope, and joy.

When the algorithm places posts on my feed, I try to react honestly without regard for hurting anyones feelings. I am being targeted with content, so I am being prodded to react. I am a social justice warrior at the core. I don't give a damn what religious lable anyone wishes to wear or more realistically had it branded on them as children and are doing their best to leverage that lable into doing something worthwhile for the world, their neighbors, or themselves. It is good to see people doing good work. We need social groups like these in every town. America would be a significantly kinder, friendlier, and safer place to live. However, it is extremely difficult to comprehend local social justice when globally we as American's (both Jews and Christians) are being programmed to support mass murder and the total destruction of life and property of people overseas that we cannot see or hear or help in any real way. It matters immensely how one answers this question. Is it only regional or local social justice we care about or does that notion apply to all people, everywhere? The lables Christian and Jew have been destroyed and redefined by those who lust for power and wealth. They have manipulated of our media and our government at every level to such an extent that we now have churches and temples cheering for mass murder labeled as self defense. White Nationals are not Christian and Zionists are not Jews. Anyone joining any social justice organization should be clear about the definitions going in because even Hitler and the Nazi's had millions of innocent families engaged in what they believed were social justice groups that were entirely for the benefit of the German people.

This fall, I joined the board of Jews United for Justice, a fantastic membership organization of Maryland and DC Jewish folks and allies to work for economic, racial, and social justice in our region. I've been a fan of Jacob Feinspan and his team are doing to support workers and communities of color across DC and Maryland, and I'm really honored to get to help this team. Every year, JUFJ gathers our communities for a single night to celebrate our wins, honor some of our leaders and partners, and see old and new friends. This year, for the first time ever, this celebration, the Heschel Vision Awards, is taking place in Baltimore. It’s an opportunity to learn more about JUFJ and to support an organization that’s making a real difference in people’s lives and have a lovely evening with passionate and compassionate people. It’s Sunday, December 8. I hope you’ll join me. Please check out https://lnkd.in/ehcD5UqT to reserve your spot and support this fantastic organization -- and reach out if you want to talk more about JUFJ!

Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) were founded as a direct response to segregation. Black educators and students were excluded from attending and teaching at existing institutions of higher learning, so they established their own, the first of which was in 1837 (Cheyney University of Pennsylvania).? These spaces founded the distinguished sororities and fraternities known as the Divine Nine of the National Panhellenic Council (NPHC). True to form, in support of the upcoming presidential election, The Divine Nine is showing up and showing out, and NO ONE is surprised! Mobilizing their 2.5 million members, the Divine Nine is educating people of all racial and socioeconomic backgrounds about their voting rights—one church, charity, and community group at a time. Beyond their significant role in American academia, this collective of Black leaders continues to demonstrate the power of a strong network to drive real, tangible change. ? Are you a member of an NPHC organization? ?? How have your professional networks influenced your industry? Share your experiences in the comments. #NPHC #Divine9 #HBCUs #HBCU

“I am because we are.” I’m a byproduct of those who saw fit to assist me throughout my personal, educational, and career-journey.?I am both grateful and honored to be able to help pave the way for the next generation to get their education with a bit less financial burden hanging over their head through The Jeremiah Erby and Therrian Zeigler Scholarship at WSSU. A big shout out to my wife, Zoé Zeigler, for her support and deep commitment to continuing her family’s legacy of helping Black students get their education. While her father and I never had the opportunity to meet, I’m humbled to partner with him posthumously to lean into the charge of “repaving the foundation for future generations.” Read more about the scholarship here:? https://lnkd.in/gZZpmYHG #BMC #IYKYK

On Juneteenth, we commemorate the ending of slavery in the United States, while also acknowledging the long-lasting horrendous legacy that it has left on our society and Black Americans. The stain of slavery reminds us of the past we must face and reconcile with to ensure a better future for our nation, our state, and our community. For Black Americans who continue to bear the burden of systematic racism, injustice, and hate, we know that commemorating this day is only a small part of a long journey toward racial justice, equity, and freedom. At Empire Justice Center, we are committed to this journey and to the communities we serve. Concretely, this includes operating a very active internal Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Accessibility (DEIA) Committee to implement racial equity-based solutions and an ongoing DEIA Training Series. Externally, this means ensuring our organization adequately serves communities of color (recent data shows that 63% of individuals directly served by the organization identify as people of color). Our offices will be closed today, but our hearts and minds are open, ready and dedicated to putting the work into action.
