They’re fun, they’re festive, and they’re hot! Sparklers are a fun and easy way to celebrate on holidays like Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day. According to the CPSC, sparklers can burn as hot as 2000 degrees Fahrenheit and can easily cause burns when not handled correctly. Had the pleasure of attending Ohio Society of Association Professionals Annual Conference in Cinncinati and really enjoyed the networking, sessions and conversations. Thank you Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) for making this possible. My key takeaways include: - find ways to make your team feel valued at work and incorporate play as a primary research tool - Geoff McLachlan - understanding the challenges of hybrid and remote work models allows the whole team to discover ways to problem solve, and cultivate a healthy work environment by encouraging ways to build psychological safety and resilience. - don’t be afraid to question the status quo - a willingness to tell your story doesn’t have to be selfish or narcissistic and you can have a great and powerful impact by relating to others through story telling - meeting new people is fun, don’t forget that! #professionaldevelopment #remote #work #attendee #osap

For our 15th anniversary of Empty Bowls, we wanted to revisit what has made Empty Bowls so special all these years. One thing came out above all others when we talked with folks: community. Over the years, we have received feedback that the name Empty Bowls feels incomplete. It is unfortunate that at this moment many in our community are worried about their bowls being empty. However, our neighbors are so much more than their current situation. When we thought about how we could envision a new name for Empty Bowls, it was important to us that the name did not focus on what we lack. Rather, we felt the name should highlight what we can accomplish together. ?? What does Horizon mean? The Horizon logo is meant to symbolize neighbors sitting together at a table sharing a meal. The spokes of the sun are also people, and the sun can also be seen as a table. The sun is rising over the horizon and a brighter future is made as neighbors come together, celebrating one another, and building connection. Now that Juneteenth is officially a federal holiday in the United States, it’s the perfect time to observe Juneteenth as a family. Juneteenth is right around the corner and it celebrates the freedom of the last group of enslaved people in the United States. Looking for ways to honor this holiday with your children? Here are 5 ways to celebrate Juneteenth together as a family. 1) Read about Juneteenth: Together, you can learn about Juneteenth and why it’s important to celebrate. Checkout Juneteenth for Mazie. You can have a discussion about the book with your child. 2) Have an outdoor cookout: Just like any holiday, Juneteenth is all about enjoying good food! 3) Create kid-friendly crafts: Have a craft party! You can make a craft stick Juneteenth Pan-African flag. Have your child paint craft sticks red, black and green then glue them to a jumbo craft stick to create the flag. 4) Attend a local celebration: Attending a local Juneteenth event is a great opportunity to meet other families and build relationships with people from different backgrounds. 5) Support a Black-owned business: Shopping small is a great way to support your community. Create a list with your child featuring three Black-owned businesses to visit for Juneteenth.
