CARBON CAPTURE: Vaulted Deep has raised an impressive Series A round of $32.3M to further the advancement of their climate tech, which locks away planet-warming carbon by burying organic waste deep underground. I love these startups that combine seemingly simple tech, to create innovative solutions. So how does it work? Vaulted deep takes Carbon-bearing, sludgy, organic wastes (like?biosolids, agricultural & livestock wastes, and paper sludge)?that otherwise would have gone to a landfill, dumped in a waterway, or spread on land to decompose, and then diverts that waste to inject the carbon deep underground. The result is permanent, 10,000+ year, carbon removal. Virta Ventures is a pre-seed climate tech fund investing in companies with equity-light B2B business models that are digitizing and decarbonizing energy, transportation, the built environment and agriculture. Virta intends to back “winners” in the equity-light climate tech space that will make up a meaningful portion of the 300 “decacorn” and 1,000 “unicorn” climate tech companies expected to emerge by 2030. Great to see Applied Carbon emerging from stealth! They're one of the few CDR companies that's not just great for the planet, but also good for farmers, soil, and ag yield. Rebuilding soil quality with nature-based plant-sequestered carbon is a global-scale opportunity. We partnered with Jason Aramburu and Morgan Williams to seed the company, but have had great partners since the beginning and in the current round.
