It reflects Australia’s origins as part of the British Empire. 2. Southern Cross (Right side) ? A constellation of five stars visible in the southern hemisphere, symbolizing Australia’s geographical location. ? It has been a key navigational feature for sailors and holds cultural significance for many Australians. 3. Commonwealth Star (Below the Union Jack) ? A large seven-pointed star, also called the Federation Star. ? Six points represent the six states of Australia. ? The seventh point represents the territories and Australia’s unity as a federation. How the residents of the Islands of Thieves became U.S. citizens In business, sometimes the path from a startup to a successful project is thorny and winding; there may be changes in the concept, in management, in the name of the product before it reaches the customer in its final form. And so it is in the world around us, in its history..... The annals of geographical discoveries know many interesting facts that influenced the names and destinies of the indigenous people. In this line, the history of the Mariana Islands, the very area where the Mariana Trench is known to everyone, is very interesting. The famous explorer Fernan Magellan discovered these islands during his expedition back in 1521. The journey across the Pacific Ocean was difficult, his crew was very tired by the time they arrived on land, and the locals took advantage of this by taking some items from Magellan's ships. The annoyed discoverer, because of this unpleasant moment, gave the islands the name Las Islas de los Ladrones, which translates as “Islands of Thieves”. For almost 150 years the islands were known by this ringing combination until June 4, 1668, when Spanish Queen Maria Anna of Austria, under whose jurisdiction the territory was then, signed a decree renaming the “Islands of Thieves” to “Las Marianas”. In 1898, after the Spanish-American War, the southern part of the islands passed to the United States, then after World War I they were administered by Japan, and after World War II, the United Nations placed the islands under U.S. administration. In 1978, the Northern Mariana Islands and the island of Guam became considered unincorporated organized territories of the United States. In 1986, all islanders were granted U.S. citizenship status. This is how the descendants of the original inhabitants of the Islands of Thieves, located 11,300 kilometers from the U.S. became citizens of this country.

During this royal visit by King Charles and Queen Camilla, it's crucial to reflect on the ongoing impact of colonisation and the history that many of our people live with every day. While there are those who may view this visit as a momentous occasion, for many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, it serves as a reminder of the history of this land and the ongoing struggle for recognition and justice. Australia’s history is deeply intertwined with the arrival of the British Crown and the subsequent displacement, violence, and marginalisation faced by First Nations peoples. Sovereignty was never ceded, and the assertion of "Terra Nullius" disregarded the rich cultures, knowledge, and traditions that existed long before 1788. This land has always been, and always will be, Aboriginal land. The resilience and enduring sovereignty of First Nations people is a testament to our strength and resistance against forces that sought to erase us. It is this spirit of resilience that fuels the ongoing calls for truth-telling, treaty, and genuine reconciliation. It is vital to keep these truths at the forefront and continue pushing for justice, healing, and respect for our self-determination. This moment should inspire all Australians to engage in conversations about our shared history and advocate for change. Only through acknowledging the truth of our past and respecting the rights of First Nations people can we begin to create a future where we all stand on equal ground. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #SovereigntyNeverCeded #TruthTelling #SelfDetermination

Understanding the Connection Between King Charles and Australia: Australia’s relationship with the British monarchy, now represented by King Charles III, is a fascinating blend of history and modern governance. Let’s break it down: In 1788, Australia became a British colony, later evolving into a federation in 1901. While gaining self-governance, Australia continued to recognize the British monarch as head of state. As King of Australia, Charles III holds a symbolic position, with no direct political authority. His representation in Australia is through the Governor-General, who acts on the advice of the Australian Prime Minister and Parliament. Australia does not pay any taxes to King Charles, though ceremonial events involving the monarchy may use public funds. Governance and policy decisions are entirely made within Australia, highlighting its sovereignty. Today, Australia remains part of the Commonwealth, a voluntary association of nations tied by shared history. The monarchy reflects traditions and identity linked to Australia’s past, serving as both a cultural symbol and a reminder of its colonial heritage. Is Australia’s current relationship with the monarchy a reminder of history or a call for change? Should it stay or move toward becoming a republic? Share your thoughts. #Australia #Monarchy #KingCharles #History #Politics

Well done
Speaking Truth to Power! ? King Charles's embarrassment during a visit to Australia! Aboriginal Australian Senator Lidia Thorpe shouted at him: "You are not our king, you are not our sovereign ruler, you have committed ge**cide against us. Give us back our land, give us back what you have stolen from us. Our bones, our skulls, our babies, our people - you have destroyed our land, it is not your land."
