Another year, another COP, and yet again, we are confronted with the glaring imbalance in women’s representation on climate decision-making fora. ???Exhibit A: 8 women representing 51% of the population, alongside 69 men representing 49%. This statistic is not just a number—it’s a stark reminder of the work that remains to be done. At #SHEChangesClimate, we continue to push the boundaries, advocating for true representation. Because real gender parity isn’t about ticking boxes; it’s about building a foundation for solutions that are just, inclusive, and impactful for all. And as the Enhanced Lima Work Programme on Gender and its Gender Action Plan come up for review this year, we’re reminded once again that true progress cannot be achieved without meaningful participation from women at all levels of decision-making. #COP29 #COP29Azerbaijan
At the same time that we advocating for women's participation and leadership, we should also mandate that all those at COP, the men, should also be bringing in the gender dimensions. The organisers, all those involved, should be tasked with this key mandate. We shouldn't have to wait for more women to get more climate and gender justice.
This is sad but not suprising - those most affected by climate change seem to always be missing from these conversations. Women in general, African women, climate refugees, peri-urban and rural residents, poor and working class people. Always over represented are those responsible for the climate crisis especially men, global North residents and white people.
That's why progress has been stalling for over a decade....
SHE Changes Climate She can’t change anything for the better yet. Why? Because girls are trying to save the world within a male-made paradigm that doesn’t understand nature enough to drive progress any further. SHE needs to realize she should never have measured herself against a man. Her job is to own her true nature and the unique power of her mind. Only THEN will she gain access to the knowledge needed to align the world with nature—and align herself with her true potential. Simply adding a woman to the current system or existing scientific framework isn’t the solution. It only reinforces the problem and keeps us stuck. It’s exactly why we’re in trouble in the first place. #queenscience #girlai
Wow. Once again, stark disparities in numbers, visibility and representation. A stark reminder of incremental change perhaps but an issue that emerges annually? How do we create a SEE-CHANGE on this pattern as well as C-CHANGE? We need every mind, hand and body to address this significant issue. We need to keep pushing, advocating as well as supporting women's representation including behind-the-scenes back up. We also need to confront the resistance to women's leadership. It is there and its deeply held. Thanking SHE Changes Climate and others for all they are doing and have been doing on this.
I count 10 women ??????
Why should it be a surprise. Inclusion & Diversity is just an ESG tick box and get a good scoring.
A sad reality despite the fact women are disproportionately affected by climate change AND are leading so many of the grassroots movements but we are still not in the decision making rooms - what a surprise ??
I would also like to emphasize that in almost all the pavilions where there were people dressed in traditional attire, it was always and exclusively women (except for Malaysia, where I saw a man), reinforcing this stereotype of women as objects on display. This stood out even more given the many fantastic presentations delivered by women, showcasing outstanding expertise and insights. It would be about time to focus on role models rather than simply models.

1 周?Women’s underrepresentation at COP is a missed opportunity for impactful climate solutions. Research shows that women are 2.5 times more likely to take climate action and 60% more likely to drive social initiatives. Imagine the transformative potential if more women were at the table, this isn’t just about equality; it’s about leveraging a powerhouse of resilience and community-driven insights essential for comprehensive climate solutions.
