??A Decade of OCO-2 in Orbit! ?? Ten years ago, NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration launched the Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 (OCO-2), marking a significant milestone in our understanding of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2). Since its launch on July 2, 2014, OCO-2 has provided invaluable data, helping scientists worldwide to map and monitor CO2 sources and sinks on a global scale. As we celebrate this milestone, we look forward to the continued advancements in our quest at Constructivist to understand and protect our planet with GHG monitoring and evidence based accounting. CO2 is a critical greenhouse gas, playing a vital role in Earth's carbon cycle and climate system. Through its high-precision measurements, OCO-2 has enhanced our understanding of the processes regulating the exchange of CO2 between Earth's surface and the atmosphere, shedding light on the complex dynamics of natural and anthropogenic carbon fluxes. Key achievements of OCO-2 include: ?? Unraveling the dynamics of ocean carbon exchange and the seasonal patterns of terrestrial ecosystems. ?? Investigating the impact of wildfires and weather events on CO2 levels. ?? Providing a clearer, more complete picture of global CO2 distribution, essential for predicting future climate scenarios. Tanager-1, a cutting-edge satellite equipped with NASA's state-of-the-art GHG tracking technology, was successfully deployed on Friday, August 16th. This innovative tool aims to identify and quantify super-emitters of greenhouse gases (GHGs) on a global scale. ?? As Riley Duren, Carbon Mapper CEO, emphasizes, the data collected by Tanager-1 will provide crucial information for decision-makers to hold super-emitters accountable and drive meaningful climate action. With its ability to scan 130,000 square kilometres per day, Tanager-1 will play a vital role in verifying reported GHG emissions and promoting transparency.. Particularly good timing given the elevated solar activity and in view of the upcoming Solar Maximum 25, as I am proud to report that a broad community effort in the frame of #COSPAR’s Panel on Space Weather / International Space Weather Action Teams is finally accepted for publication in the Advances in Space Research. The “Prediction of Solar Energetic Events Impacting Space Weather Conditions” has just appeared online at https://lnkd.in/dqAw5BeS This is a grassroots review and roadmap paper attempting a crosscut of the state of the field, namely the prediction of solar flares, CMEs and SEP events directly from solar sources. Discussion on AI methods and machine/deep learning, lots of references, future prospects and an assortment of missions underway and future mission concepts are all in. We miss a lot to efficiently predict the solar activity, as can be seen in the #JHUAPL figure on Gap Analysis to #NASA below, that is part of the paper. Knowledge of gaps is already power, though. Distinctly privileged to coordinate this effort and huge thanks to the other 45 authors from around the world, without whom none of this would be even remotely possible.

?? Exciting News! ?? We’re thrilled to share that NASA has successfully launched the PACE (Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem) satellite. This mission will study the impact of microscopic life in water and microscopic particles in the air, providing insights into the interactions of the ocean and atmosphere, and how a changing climate affects these interactions. As a global leader for IR sensors, Teledyne Judson Technologies is proud to contribute to this mission. Our InGaAs and MCT detectors play a crucial role in enabling the satellite’s hyperspectral ocean color instrument to measure oceans and other water bodies across a spectrum of ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared light. This will allow scientists to track the distribution of phytoplankton and identify changes in the marine environment. We’re honored to be part of this groundbreaking mission and look forward to the new discoveries it will bring. This is one of the greatest things that has been built and put in orbit by #Planet and #NASA. For the first time we could see and track methane and CO2 by their source.
