BRANDING in Direct Sales/Network Marketing and how to make sure you're not overseeing one of its most influential parts few even consider. One element will impact your branding beyond anything you "look and feel" can handle. I think you'll agree. Branding is something that should go way beyond the look and feel of your logo, colors, look of product, collateral and website. Companies spend so much money and resources into those before they invest into the one thing that can make them irrelevant. In fact, it is so important that it can overcome a less-than-glamorous labeling and packaging. You know how sometimes a person does something that's quite unsurprising to us and we immediately think: "yep, that's perfectly on brand for them."? Yes, it's not always about design, slogans and personalities. I'm talking about the experience customers (independent distributor and retail customers) have when they use the company's products. Experience is as much a part of the products as the ingredients themselves. Having in depth experience, I promise you this is how people think. Everything from the moment they log into your website or call Customer Service, all the way until they consume the product. Not enough emphasis is placed on this crucial part. Because of space I can't go into deep details but I'll give you a few bullet points to consider and reflect about the experience your customers are having. Hopefully everything checks out: 1. How easy is it to log in and purchase? Do they have to go through 12 different pages, scroll, scroll, scroll and deal with industry lingo? 2. What's the customer service experience like? Length of call queue, level of courtesy, capability and knowledge from the reps. 3. Packaging and shipping. Are your customers getting their orders consistently adequately fast and consistently without damage? 4. Opening product. Do they need long nails, super grip or special tools to access the contents of the product? 5. Accessing the product. How user-friendly is it? How well does the container work? Can you easily access the product? Does the bottle do what it's supposed to? Is it unnecessarily complex? 6. Using the product. Does it taste good or horrible? Does it smell bad? Is it messy? These are 3 points that carry more weight that a lot people imagine. It doesn't matter how great a product is and what it does if clients can't stomach it or can't easily and readily use it. Do you see how missing on a few of this points can brand your company? You could create a brand that transcends the effect of beautiful colors, a modern design and a sophisticated look. Your brand could become "great products that don't sell more than once" or "great products that always arrive broken" or "great products but a pain to use".
