In the shadow of Iceland’s largest geothermal power station, a large warehouse houses a hi-tech indoor farm of sorts that’s like nothing I’ve ever seen. Under a strange pink-purple glow, illuminated panels buzz and cylindrical columns of water bubble away, as a futuristic crop of microalgae grows. It's here that Iceland's Vaxa Technologies has developed a system that harnesses energy and other resources from the nearby power plant, to cultivate these tiny aquatic organisms. https://lnkd.in/egD6qbq5 #iceland #algae #food

Arid soils hold untapped potential for carbon sequestration and storage. Recognizing soil’s crucial role in the desert ecosystem, Topian is measuring, managing and enriching the organic carbon pool on our open-field farms. We do this by carefully evaluating market-available organic amendments that are: ·?Practical?– Viewed as economically feasible ·?Effective?– With efficacy in?regard to any claims? ·?Sustainable?– Sourced from an abundantly available circular resource? ·?Resilient?– Resistant to decay, thereby increasing carbon stock in soil long-term. Good soil means good food, so it’s good for you and good for the planet. Happy World Soil Day! #NEOM #Topian #WorldSoilDay?

Protecting the last remaining fragments of Earths biodiversity is vital for the long term survival of the human species... Akin to the human embryo's in cryo-storage seen in "Interstellar". When (approx 15 years - www.goesfoundation.com) not if, the Earths oceanic collapse triggers total climate collapse, the countries and people with the most resilient and best protected ecosystems will be the ones to "Re-Seed" the Earth. This is not a prediction based on a Sci-fi movie, this is based on peer reviewed science, chemistry, biology and human behaviour which have combined in the perfect storm of overpopulation, over consumption and horrific pollution of our once Blue planet. 1,000's of scientists and authors have tried to warn us about this for over 50 years, from Carl Sagan, Sir David Attenborough, the UN and Mark Lynas, we have ignored them all... https://lnkd.in/eER_EdzF https://lnkd.in/erGHVspv https://lnkd.in/eVVkXxbq

This is the most biodiverse desert in the world & you never heard of it. This is Richtersveld. First of all deserts? Biodiversity? "I thought that's just sand." For a long time I thought so too. But there is much more to them than meets the eye. ?? Why Richtersveld matters Richtersveld region stands as an ecological wonder, acclaimed as the most biodiverse arid landscape on the planet. It inhabits species that don't exist anywhere else. If we lose them here, we lose these species forever. Yet an alarming 85% of its total biomass has died. ?? Why is under severe threat Climate Change ? Puts severe pressure on this unique ecosystem, with temperatures rising by +3° in just 7 years (2012-2019). Plant poaching ? The rarity of the plants is their curse. With the scale of the trade worth more than the rhino horn. Illegal Mining ? Tearing apart the land, reducing vibrant ecosystems to barren wastelands. ?? The Plant Shepard that fights against this Pieter van Wyk. In 1830s his elders hunted the last hippo & cheetahs that existed in this area. He represents a point of change. He has stopped +400 000 plants from being poached. He built a backup. His house is a herbarium containing 5,000 plant specimens. He protects & restores this place for all of us. ?? 3 actions you can take to help # 1 Share.? Repost this powerful video created by Ben Melle Pama & David Nivison so that more people learn about this magical place. # 2 Join.? ?????????????? ?? ?????????????????? ???? ?????? ?????????????? ???????? ???? ?????? ????????????! Today, on World Ocean Day, we celebrate the importance of our oceans and promote vital conservation efforts. The ocean is our planet's largest oxygen source, making its protection absolutely essential for life on Earth. At Algae Capital we are committed to making a sustainable contribution for the future. With algae production we create a sustainable & plant-based alternative to fish oil, which combats overfishing. Overfishing disrupts food chains, has a negative impact on the coral reefs and deteriorates the ocean health and water quality. Let us protect and preserve these magnificent ecosystems! #algaecapital ?#algaebiotech?#algaeprojects ?#algaegrowth?#algaegrowthiceland?#algaenutrition ?#microalgae?#algae?#worldoceanday

"It takes a village..." ?? What if we could help plants thrive even in the face of water scarcity? At GreenCoLab, we're taking action by launching a new greenhouse trial to explore the bio-stimulant potential of algae for plants under water stress. ?? Through the LOCALITY Algae project, GreenCoLab and ALGAIA - JRS Group are coming together to address the urgent need to preserve this vital natural resource. By working together, we're developing innovative, sustainable solutions for the planet's future. Source: (Environmental research) Study examines how vegetative cover affects mercury (Hg) in snowpacks in Canada's Subarctic, noting that greening may enhance Hg accumulation and methylation. Sampling showed higher mercury concentrations under tree canopies compared to open tundra, with significant post-depositional reductions and increased methylmercury and organic carbon levels in vegetated areas. Findings suggest climate-induced changes in vegetation could impact global mercury cycling.

"Trees, shrubs, flowers, everything green and beautiful – they’re all doing their bit above ground. But have you ever thought about the world beneath their roots? The organisms living below, like earthworms and bugs, are just as crucial to our ecosystem. Unfortunately, soil pollution affects them, and our knowledge about the issue is limited." #soilscience #soilhealth #soilbiome #soilsystems #watersystems #soilrestoration #climatesolutions https://lnkd.in/eqanK9ix

Highly recommended watch. This is the same concept we need to apply to #coralreefs - a #biobank or a #genebank is necessary to preserve #genetic material before we lose it all. When the environment begins to stabilize again, we should have the reserves in place to begin the restoration process. Along the way, we can continue to learn new methods and applications for restoration, but only when the #environmental conditions are optimal can hands on restoration occur.
