Members of our Negotiator Response Team (NRT) joined crisis negotiator teams from all over the state in attending the 2024 Crisis Negotiation Seminar & Challenge in Hillsborough County this week. Teams engaged in a series of presentations and case studies relative to contemporary issues in crisis negotiation as well as an intense, full-scale scenario, held at the Amalie Arena, that gave them the opportunity to put the skills they learned into practice. NRT is a call-out team made up sworn members that respond to calls where a person is in crisis - they may be threatening suicide or they are a violent subject has barricaded themselves with a hostage. They are called to deescalate the situation and bring a peaceful resolution. Often deploying alongside SWAT, these members are known to have incredible active-listening skills, empathy, and determination to help people in crisis. We are so thankful to have these highly trained and caring members helping the citizens of Pinellas.
