A key differentiation to make before hiring (or even posting a job) is to understand which side of the spectrum you're hiring from: - ?????????????????????? ???????? (????????????????????????): a solid candidate that will keep an established operation running smoothly. The candidate is less expensive but will not realize any extra value from the operation. For example, a marketer who inherits and runs a META account but is not savvy enough to engineer improvements from creative, ad types, or overall strategy. The biggest benefits of this hire are 1) low relative cost and 2) ability to focus on other things. The big drawback is unrealized potential, which can add up significantly over time. - ???????????????????? ???????? (????????????): a true expert who can realize potential quickly. In the META example, this person can get to the lowest cost per acquisition in weeks or months and advise on how to best maintain it. The biggest benefits are 1) immediate improvements and 2) experienced perspective of how these results impact the company outside of the role (e.g. META not getting better than $X, and if we need to be at 60% of $X, it's better to try a different channel). The drawback here is cost. There's also the risk that you think you’re getting an investment hire when you’re getting a maintenance hire, trust the wrong numbers, and waste even more time. In my experience, if (and it’s a big if!) you can get an investment hire for maintenance hire prices, it will not last long. It would be better to recognize and correct this before entering an engagement instead of dealing with the inevitable turnover.

“You’re a detective.” Prior to that offhand comment from a manager early in my career, I had never really considered my general curiosity. Since then, I have worked to make it my superpower. If something doesn’t look or feel right, investigate. Here are a few things I caught by investigating thing that felt off: - Meta had stopped firing our purchase event. Since we used internal attribution, nobody caught it, costing us nearly $250k in inefficiencies over two weeks. - Our first few merched items on our most trafficked CLP were sold out, leading to a 10% decrease in conversion for a week. - The add-to-cart button was not working on mobile, causing a 30% decrease in conversion over three days. - Our ad output dropped by 50% over the course of 2 months, nearly doubling our CPAs. Curiosity is now the most important attributes I look for when hiring. Curiosity can be a hell of a superpower.

* PM Leadership Opportunities at Meta * From Meta's Q3 2024 Earnings Call, we covered the process in our AI efforts, a focus on delivering relevant experiences for our community, and how we are helping drive advertising performance. - Our community continues to grow, with 3.29 Billion people using at least one of our apps every day - The improvements to our AI-driven feed and video recommendations has increased time spent on FB and Instagram - WhatsApp now has 2 billion calls made globally every day - More than a million advertisers use our Gen AI tools to create more than 15 million ads in the last month - We are evolving our ads platform to ensure that we customize each business' way they measure value That being said, PM leadership continues to grow hiring demand. I am supporting IC7 (leadership) PM roles. ?? Open to Work: Product Marketing, Contract Roles, & Short-Term Startup Projects ?? After 2 productive years as a Product Marketing Manager at Meta, I’m excited to announce that I’m open to new opportunities. I’m currently seeking full time Product Marketing Manager roles, contract work and short term projects where I can apply my skills and experience to drive growth and innovation. My areas of expertise include: - Strategic Research: Most recently at Meta I focused on GenAI competitive research, but I also have experience in setting up user panels for product feedback and conducting global product research with a focus on the Chinese tech ecosystem. - Go-To-Market Campaigns: I’ve worked with both start-ups and big tech companies (Uber, Meta) to help bring products to market through product testing, marketing/sales enablement materials, and event-based activations. - Program Management: I’ve worked cross-functionally with technical teams, marketing and sales, executives, and external stakeholders to bring projects from ideation to execution. If your company or startup is looking for a strategic partner to tackle product marketing challenges or an extra set of hands to help you through the holiday season (e-commerce companies, I’m looking at you), I’d love to connect. Whether it’s a referral into your company or an opportunity to lend my skills to your team, I’m ready to make an impact. Let’s make great things happen together! #OpenToWork #ProductMarketing #StartupConsulting #GoToMarket #GrowthStrategy #ProgramManagement

Four days ago, I shared the exciting news about joining the Mobile Identity team at Meta and announced that we’re hiring two product managers in the Tel-Aviv office. The response has been overwhelming, with over 763,000 impressions and 4,426 reactions! ?? What surprised me the most was the volume of interest from people wanting to transition into product management, despite their current roles. While Meta offers an amazing RPM (Rotational Product Manager) program for those from diverse backgrounds, most PM roles still require 5+ years of experience. So, how can one gain this experience, and more importantly, how do you know if a PM career is right for you? For me, the answer has always been simple: ??build a digital product.?? There’s never been a better time to leverage cloud infrastructure, services, and LLMs to create a digital product or at least an MVP, quickly and cost-effectively. Here’s why: 1. Learn by Doing: Building a product requires you to wear many hats—collaborating with engineering, design, content, and data teams, pitching to leadership, and selling to partners. This hands-on experience is invaluable. 2. Test the Waters: Being an entrepreneur in the digital space helps you understand if the PM role suits you. It’s the best school for learning the ropes of product management. 3. Build Credibility and Experience: Even if your product doesn’t take off, the process will teach you a lot. If it does succeed, you’ll gain experience, credibility, and perhaps even fortune. To all aspiring PMs, my advice is to start building. The journey itself will be your best teacher. ?? #ProductManagement #CareerAdvice #DigitalProducts #Meta #Hiring #Entrepreneurship
