Today felt like the perfect time to jump back into LinkedIn. The last 10-12 months have been quite a journey both personally and professionally. This post isn't meant to relive the last year but to encourage everyone that when your life is turned upside down unexpectedly, it can lead to wonderful outcomes. I found through prayer, reflection, and unwavering support from friends and family, what was initially something extraordinarily difficult became a true blessing. Some will notice I have a "gap" in my work history now. About 4 months. 4 months to jettison a lot of baggage, get my mind and body back to neutral (thank you Brendan Ferns for recommending Getting to Neutral by Trevor Moawad), and to dream again. 4 months to reconnect with my wife and start to make decisions that are focused on me and my family first, not what a job might dictate or require. Call it a gap or a sabbatical or whatever you'd like; I knew in order to be the best for my family and for wherever I chose to go professionally, I had to reset. In October of 2023 I got to meet with some of the team at Grubb Ventures. I wasn't sure if I was ready to come off the sidelines yet. Was I mentally ready? Did I complete my "factory reset?" A few things were clear that were critical to me: 1. The leaders truly cared about the people there. It wasn't lip service or just some core value splattered on a wall. 2. They believed the company was ready to make smart, strategic changes in response to recent growth (I like leading through change believe or not). 3. Grubb cares about the community they live and work in. I joined Grubb as its CFO in November (I know I'm late posting about it). And today we sorted and packed eggs at the Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC. We did it together. Just like we do each day at the office. I'm so thankful to the team at Grubb for choosing me. I'm grateful to everyone who supported me this last year, especially my wife and family. And while I know God doesn't ever have to reveal His plan for me, I'm blessed that He continues to orient my steps.

You know that Peterborough Humane Society receives pets in all sorts of physical and mental conditions, heals them and then adopts them to their fur-ever family. But what you might not know is we offer emergency boarding to pets of individuals feeling domestic violence. We provide these pets love and care for up to 30 days (before we re-engage with the owner) without cost to the individual. We can do this work because of supporters donating to our SNOOY (Safe Nights for Pets) fund. Now we want to expand SNOOPY to include individuals that are experiencing non-preventable situations like fire, flood and hospitalizations. But we need money to ensure we can help more individuals. Walk in the Park: Dog Distraction Class It’s a different kind of walk in the park at See Differently’s weekly dog distraction classes for our pups in training. At these sessions, volunteers guide the pups through various exercises designed to help them stay focused (despite lots of tempting distractions like other dogs, toys, and people). Sofie and Bree from the puppy team lead the class with lots of tips and tricks to keep the students on the right track! Teaching our dogs these skills early on is essential for them to become well-trained and reliable companions. We're looking for more volunteers to help raise and train our next generation of See Differently guide or assistance dogs. We have various volunteering opportunities to suit everyone. ???? Partner spotlight: Assistance Dogs New Zealand Trust ???? This week we’re getting to know Assistance Dogs New Zealand Trust, a charitable trust that provides purpose-trained assistance dogs to people living with a disability. Founded in 2008, Assistance Dogs was created by veteran service dog trainer Julie Hancox. Julie knew service dogs could help enrich the lives of a wide array of individuals but, sadly, they were only available in a very limited number of circumstances. Since then, Julie and her team have placed over 100 dogs with people who would previously have struggled to access that support - including people with autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and epilepsy. The Assistance Dogs team trains dogs to meet the specific needs of clients on a wait list, carefully matches dogs with their new owners, and provides ongoing training to ensure a long-lasting and successful partnership that continues to enrich the life of the individual. Individuals who have received assistance dogs have described them as life-changing. They have been shown to increase confidence, independence and community connection, while reducing anxiety, loneliness and isolation. The PEDIGREE Foundation funds nonprofit shelters and rescues in the United States with programs that support dog adoption. Program Development Grants of $10,000 to $15,000 are provided in the following categories: foster programs that move dogs temporarily into loving homes while they await adoption; behavior programs that help with socialization, training, and stress relief so dogs can move beyond behaviors that might hinder their adoption; and transport programs that move dogs from areas of overpopulation to areas where they’re more likely to be adopted. In addition, one DOGS RULE.? Grant of $50,000 a year for two years will support an innovative best practice initiative that focuses on increasing dog adoptions rates. How to settle in your new rescue dog. We've created an information booklet that outlines everything you need to know on the basics of dog ownership, and you can get hold of it right now. While it is designed for new owners, it's also a great source of knowledge and a reminder of the basics for all dog owners, with some really interesting and useful insights and tips on how to settle in a new dog into your home.
