Why do parents and caregivers not get the information they need to support their kids?! This information is specific to Marylanders - but if you see this, and you live in a different state, use this language to Google resources that may exist in your state or territory. ?? Waivers for people with developmental disabilities in (insert your state) ?? Autism waiver in (insert your state) Also applying =\= (does not equal) funding. It is the first step to getting services and supports to help your child with a developmental disability. There are often loooong waitlists. The earlier you apply, the sooner you are identified by the system. And sometimes you can get additional services and supports while you *patiently wait for funding. #ExperientialLife #ParentSupport #InformationAndResources #Autism #RaisingNeurodivergentKids

When people think about autism, they often categorize WHERE someone is on the spectrum. They focus on the WHAT and HOW MUCH instead of WHO the person actually is. This is why... ?? it's time to reframe our approach and bridge the gap. ?????? Autistic self-advocate, Dr. Stephen Shore, said it best, "If you've met one person with autism, you've met one person with autism." Join Rise to amplify autistic voices, everyday of the year. Another category of disability is cognitive disabilities which includes intellectual disabilities such as: Down syndrome, developmental delay, and those who are neurodivergent such as folks with Autism and dyslexia. Things to consider: ?? Remember to be patient and understanding ?? Speak to them with respect as a normal individual, don't treat them or talk to them as if they were children ?? Respect their boundaries as they might be sensitive to specific sensory outputs such as touch ?? Be careful with your words, don't use discriminatory language ??Stay calm and try to be supportive #disabilityawareness #diversity #inclusion #awareness #change #mindset #disability #mentaldisability #psychiatricdisabilities #learnaboutdisabilities #specialneeds #advocacy #Concienciasobreladiscapacidad #discapacidad #discapacidadescognitiva #cognitivedisabilities

At The Option Group, we work with and help families of autism every day, and our mission is to make sure that the "awareness" people have is accurate. Some people think that autism is a stage, particularly experienced by children and that one can actually “grow out of autism” whether through therapy and intervention or independently. The truth is one cannot grow out of autism. Autism is lifelong and there is no ‘cure’ through either therapy or medicine. There is every reason to believe anyone living with autism will lead a happy and meaningful a life. #lovebundy #ndisprovider #disabilitysupport #disabilityservices #disabilitycommunity #disabilitycare #ndis #ndisregisteredprovider #carer #ndissupport #myndis #abilitynotdisability #disabilityisnotinability #disabilityawareness #disability #inclusion #disabilityadvocate #disabilityinclusion #inclusionmatters #disabilityrights #disabilitylife #iamadaptive #accessibility #diversity #disabilitypride #inclusionrevolution #ability #accessible #disabilityjustice #disabilityactivism
