Good Evening Everyone: As I slowly yet gradually make my way back to LinkedIn after nearing complete recovery after a major life event, I find that I am Catching Up on "Legal Articles Which I Appreciate." I've been doing quite a bit of reading in the past 1.5 years. In fact, a couple of years ago, I found an article emphasizing more inclusivity toward pathways to law. I am thrilled to see universities and law schools embracing diversity and inclusivity, especially during these trying times. Having recently graduated from a program at Pepperdine Carso School of Law myself, (Class of 2023), with an emphasis on Legal Studies and Alternative Dispute Resolution; I say we still today, need more legal professionals who can relate to the issues of people from different backgrounds and cultures. It's time for institutions to show their support and understanding of the power of diversity. Because, as times change which they always do, so will opinions as far as students and which school they may choose in the future once the tides have changed yet once again. That said, I am proud to say that my alma mater, Pepperdine Caruso School of Law, is leading the charge in this area. Thank you for shining so brightly and setting an example for other institutions to follow. Let's continue to strive for inclusivity and diversity in all aspects of our society. And I look forward to seeing such actions maintained, and even expanded, where funds allow. https://lnkd.in/gMWQjbgr #inclusivity #diversity #leadership #PepperdineUniversity #CarusoSchoolofLaw

Mooting competitions: a great value for future lawyers Last year, the Maastricht University Moot Court Team won the Helga Pedersen Moot Court Competition in Strasbourg. Our recent reunion interview highlights the incredible growth and achievements of team members Sadie, Benedetta, Saskia, James, Mateus, and ?ejla. Mooting is more than a competition; it’s a learning experience that hones research, public speaking, and teamwork skills, preparing future lawyers for real-world practice. It shows the importance of integrating moot courts into legal education. Saskia: “Maybe it's a bold claim, but I think there is little in law school that prepares you as much for the practical side of legal practice; especially in relation to research skills and soft skills." Maastricht University is proud of its Moot Court Team! This summer was challenging—probably the busiest I've ever been—but it was incredibly rewarding. I’m excited to share a few milestones that made it all worthwhile: ?? I earned an associate position on the Stetson Business Law Review, where I’ll be reviewing and editing thought-provoking work by other associates and writing a comparative comment on how the EU addresses a current U.S. circuit split issue. ?? After a rigorous tryout process, I accepted an offer to be a member of Stetson’s award-winning Moot Court Board. This year, I will be assisting oralists in a researcher position, where I'll be contributing to research, drafting arguments, and providing counterarguments to prepare for competitions. ?? I had the privilege of working as a Research Assistant for Professor Palermo, where I researched and briefed circuit precedents for all U.S. circuit courts for his upcoming article focused on corporate/employer liability after a cyberattack. This opportunity gave me insight into his incredible legal scholarship process and provided valuable guidance and mentorship as well. ???? I served our veteran population as a Fellow at Stetson University Veterans Law Institute, where I gained a deep understanding of Administrative Law, got published in a journal, and wrote appellate briefs to the VA, advocating for veterans' benefits. Huge thank you to Professor Morgan MacIsaac-Bykowski and Professor Simcox for all the valuable lessons, experience, and mentorship provided. ?? Lastly, I successfully completed the Secured Transactions course with Professor Christensen. For those who may not know (like I didn’t), summer courses are accelerated, with each class containing about twice as much reading as a fall/spring semester course. This course was challenging, but it sharpened my understanding of crucial commercial law concepts. I also learned that I love the code! UCC! ?????? Of course, I couldn't have done any of this without my amazing wife, Andrea, who held down the fort and is an incredible mother to our toddler, Henry. She supported me when things got busy and kept me focused on my "Why." This summer pushed me to my limits, but it also reminded me why I’m passionate about the law. Here’s to the next chapter—a full year in Madrid! #lawschool #businesslaw #mootcourt #legalresearch #securedtransactions #StetsonLaw
