TO CELEBRATE CANCER SURVIVORS DAY My platform is medication adherence. It is a critical variable in improving health outcomes for cancer survivors, especially for those managing chronic conditions like diabetes. Ensuring that cancer survivors consistently take their prescribed medications as directed can significantly reduce the risk of complications and enhance their overall quality of life. I only provide solutions, not excuses. Personalized patient education can instill the importance of their medications and how to take them correctly. Incorporating a structured protocol- a standard set of questions that benchmark a patients level of adherence and follows that patient over time through a tailored intervention offers proven results. Involving family members or caregivers in the medication management process can provide extra support and accountability. The MMAS digital intervention program can be customized and has been validated for a number of medical conditions in numerous languages including: OS-MMAS (Osteoporosis Specific) P-MMAS (Pediatric) WD-MMAS (Wilsons Disease) BC-MMAS (Breast Cancer) COPD CKD Many specific medications as well

A comparative study on prophylactic efficacy of cinnarizine and amitriptyline in childhood migraine: a randomized double-blind clinical trial ### Summary This study compared the efficacy of cinnarizine and amitriptyline in pediatric migraine prophylaxis, showing that both medications are effective but amitriptyline may be preferable due to faster onset of action and longer-lasting effects. ### Highlights - ?? Pediatric migraine prophylaxis compared: cinnarizine vs. amitriptyline - ?? Amitriptyline group showed more effective reduction in headache frequency and duration - ?? No significant difference in severity improvement and reducing disability score between the two groups - ?? Both medications effective in ameliorating migraine headaches and related disabilities - ?? Amitriptyline may be preferred option over cinnarizine based on study results - ?? Safety profiles of both medications were assessed with no serious adverse events observed #PediatricMigraine #MigraineProphylaxis #Amitriptyline #Cinnarizine #HeadacheReduction #ClinicalTrials

?? **Transforming Pediatric Oncology with Palliative Care** ?? In pediatric oncology, palliative care plays a vital role from the very first day of diagnosis. It’s not a sign of giving up; rather, it’s about providing comprehensive support to patients and their families. Engaging palliative care early on ensures that children and their families receive emotional, physical, and psychological care throughout the journey. However, there remains a significant gap in knowledge among oncologists regarding palliative care. Many still misconceive it as solely end-of-life planning, when in reality, it encompasses pain management, symptom relief, and improving quality of life, irrespective of the stage of illness. We must work together to shift this mindset. Integrating palliative care from the beginning can enhance treatment experiences and outcomes. Let’s advocate for better education and understanding among healthcare professionals to ensure that every child and family benefits from this essential aspect of care. #PediatricOncology #PalliativeCare #HealthcareTransformation #QualityOfLife #SupportFromDayOne

?? ?? Proud to share a new article exploring the development of our digital health intervention - BMT4me?, a mobile health app designed to enhance medication adherence in children undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HCT). With non-adherence rates alarmingly high (52-73%) in pediatric HCT due to complex regimens and forgetfulness, this app is a critical step forward. ?? What’s Unique? We have developed BMT4me? using a user-centered, mixed methods approach, with continuous feedback from the people who matter most: caregiver-child dyads, healthcare providers, community advocates and experts across disciplines. Through iterative design and cross-phase testing, BMT4me? evolved to meet the real needs of families and medical teams. ?? Results So Far High Usability: Healthcare providers rated the app with an impressive SUS score of 84.2 (well above the 68 average). Key Themes: Engagement, ease of use, and safety were identified as strengths. ???? Impact on Practice The BMT4me? app has the potential to significantly improve medication adherence in pediatric HCT, ultimately reducing life-threatening risks for these young patients. As pilot feasibility testing with caregivers continues, we’re excited about the future implications for integrating digital health tools like BMT4me? into clinical care. ?? Looking Ahead: With our further NIH-funded research examining the use of BMT4me? in HCT patients during the acute phase, and with spanish speaking families, we will guide how digital interventions can support high-risk patients with complex regimens, making a meaningful difference in their health outcomes. Have you ever contemplated the effectiveness of SGLT2 inhibitors in elderly or frail patients suffering from type 2 diabetes and heart failure? A systematic review and meta-analysis has shed significant light on this topic. Whilst SGLT2 inhibitors do not notably decrease HbA1c levels, they are indeed making a substantial difference - mitigating all-cause mortality, cardiac death, and hospitalisation due to heart failure. The caveat in this review? Their impact on macrovascular events, the progression of renal diseases, and other serious complications remains minimal in the frail elderly. These inhibitors are not leading to an increase in thromboembolic events or diabetic ketoacidosis in the frail elderly. This study underlines the imperative for clinicians to look beyond mere 'glycemic control'. SGLT2 inhibitors, owing to their potential cardiovascular benefits, could potentially revolutionise the treatment of elderly or frail patients afflicted by heart failure. Our pursuit of knowledge does not end here. It is paramount to undertake further research to evaluate the long-term effects and safety of SGLT2 inhibitors in these susceptible populations. It is essential to adopt a multidisciplinary strategy when making decisions about managing older individuals or those with frailty who have both Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Heart Failure. Moreover, factors such as co-morbidities, disability, frailty, expected lifespan, patient preferences, and treatment objectives should all be taken into account when devising a treatment strategy for this demographic. Your thoughts are valuable to this ongoing discourse. Do share your insights or experiences on using SGLT2 inhibitors in the comments. Also, don't forget to like, share this post with your peers and follow for more updates on this significant subject. Let's start a conversation that could potentially change lives. #sglt2inhibitors #frailelderly #geriatrics #heartfailure #journalreview
