If your #fundraising appeal only describes what your organization does, it’s not a case for support. It's a brochure. Describing tactics is generally the easiest part of writing a case, so it's often where people begin. And end. I’m an introvert- it makes me a better fundraiser. The great fundraisers are charismatic extroverts, right? That misconception caused me a lot of insecurity, and serious imposter syndrome. I once shared this concern with one of my mentors. She changed my life this insight: introverts often make the best fundraisers. Why? We listen. We focus intently on our donors, understanding their passions and motivations without dominating the conversation. We are thoughtful. Thoughtful proposals matter. Introverts excel at crafting strategic, focused proposals that resonate with a donor's interests. We build meaningful connections. We build strong, genuine bonds with donors on a one-on-one basis, the foundation of lasting support. We shine behind the scenes. From research to thank-you letters, our attention to detail fosters trust and shows the impact of every donation. Fellow introverted fundraisers, what are your strengths? Let's celebrate the value we bring to this work! #introvertpower #fundraising #philanthropy #nonprofitfundraising #nonprofit #higherEd

Year End Appeal Writing Tip #3 At its most basic level, you can define fundraising this way: The community has a problem. Your organization has the solution? But here is the key - The only way that your organization can implement the solution is with donor dollars. I know what you are thinking? that?s great, but how does that translate to my spring appeal? You do this by concentrating on putting the donor at the center. This letter isn?t about the organization. It isn?t a letter about your organization?s accomplishments. It is about the reader and how they can make an impact, by making a gift. An easy way to do this is to use ?You? language. Eliminate all the ?we?s? and ?ours? Everytime you talk about yourself, in an appeal letter, an angel loses its wings. OK maybe that is stretching it a bit, but you are costing yourself gifts. People give when they see themselves in the solution. Using the word ?you? helps accomplish this. Good Luck and let us know how it goes. #AMPO #AnnualGiving #NonprofitFundraising #DonorEngagement #Philanthropy #FundraisingAppeal #CharityImpact #NonprofitSector #StrategicPhilanthropy #DonorStewardship #NonprofitSuccess

“I would hate to do your job!; “How can you constantly ask for money?” are the usual questions I get from family members and friends alike. And it is usually accompanied by a look of horror or worse, disdain. Well, think again folks. Because as Michelle Benson beautifully illustrates it below, our job is first and foremost to create an impact. To achieve this, not only do we need funds, but we also need a vision as well as stories demonstrating the very impact we are having. So next time you speak to a fundraiser, why not start by asking “what kind of impact are you trying to achieve?”. And watch the reaction of gratitude for understanding their job. #fundraising #philanthropy #givingback

Annual Giving- Impact Piece Every week, AMPO is coming directly to you with tips and strategy to improve your annual giving program. This week you will get a deep dive on your impact piece and how to put it together. The impact piece serves two purposes: 1) Summarize Donor Giving - Previous Year (use calendar year) - Lifetime Giving (you can skip this, it this information isn't available) 2) Impact Story - Story Formula (community has a problem, organization has a solution, donor dollars needed to implement) - Story should report on progress being made and should rely on narrative not statistics You will want to work on this piece so that it is ready to go in the mail the end of February. How's it going? Have you been following along? Drop a quick note with any suggestions or questions. Have a great week!! #AMPO #annualgiving #fundraising #philanthropy
