It's National Public Health Week! This year, we're diving into the theme that echoes loud and clear: "Protecting, Connecting, and Thriving: We Are All Public Health." Today, our spotlight shines on Civic Engagement. Think about it: every vote cast, every voice heard in town halls, every hand raised in volunteer activities, shapes the very fabric of our community. It's not just about ticking boxes; it's about sculpting a healthier, more vibrant future for us all. And guess what? Studies prove it! States with higher voter turnout tend to boast better public health outcomes. So, how can YOU help supercharge your community's civic spirit? Here are some power moves: Get out there and VOTE! And while you're at it, rally your squad - friends, colleagues, neighbors - to join in. Let's turn up the volume on our collective voice! Spread the word. Educate your peeps on the significance of voting, attending town halls, and getting involved in local activities. Remind them that every action they take helps sculpt the policies that shape our community's well-being. Make your workplace a voter-friendly zone. Did you know that some states legally mandate time off for voting? Yep, it's true! Find out if your state is one of the cool kids and if not, nudge your employer to jump on board. Flexibility for voting isn't just a perk; it's a testament to your company's values! Know the lay of the land. Familiarize yourself with your state's voting policies. Are they inclusive? Do they welcome everyone to the ballot box with open arms? Policies like same-day registration and online voter registration foster healthier, more equitable communities. And let's talk about those barriers - like felon disenfranchisement. They've got to go! Let's work towards a system that uplifts every voice. Together, let's make waves in our communities and pave the way for a brighter, healthier future! Dive deeper into the action at www.NPHW.org #NPHW. Let's do this!
National Public Health Week is finally here!

August is Civic Health Month, a nationwide celebration held to showcase the strengthening relationship between health care, healthy communities, and civic participation. Civic health refers to how communities come together to identify and address public issues, as defined by the National Conference on Citizenship. It is measured through social connections, community involvement, and political participation. The Wisconsin 2024 Civic Health Challenge encourages residents to actively contribute to their community's civic health through daily challenges centered on four themes: social connection, community connection, voting, and political engagement. https://lnkd.in/gSJ4KSrW

With a new administration entering the White House in January, philanthropy is approaching a crucial crossroads. That is why we feel privileged to have TCC-er Jared Raynor at the Grantmakers In Health Policy Exchange 2024, sharing insights with colleagues about the work that needs to be done right now and moving forward.? Some highlights from Day One: ?? Listening to J. Nadine Gracia from Trust for America's Health discuss a blueprint for strengthening public health, which outlines six priorities for the next administration. As an #evaluator, the final priority of protecting scientific integrity resonates especially strongly. ?? The reminder by Adriane Casalotti, Chief of Government and Public Affairs at NACCHO of the necessity of philanthropy’s voice in protecting public health agency authority from being stripped away and responding to crises. ?? "Philanthropy can bring people together that would never otherwise sit at a table together" Irfan Hasan of The New York Community Trust. ?? It's not just policy, but how we communicate it- David Jordan, President of the United Methodist Health Ministry Fund advised that one of the most important things to think about is not simply the message, but where we deliver it. Looking forward to seeing what Day Two brings! #PublicHealth #Evaluation #Philanthropy #StrategicCommunications?

Such an important and key focus all communities should focus and commit to
Perron Institute Research Chair in Palliative Care, University of Western Australia; 2023 WA Australian of the Year; Chair, Compassionate Communities Australia.
I am excited to share with my LinkedIn network the big news that Compassionate Communities Australia is launching on Wednesday 27 March! It has been an honour to talk to many people across Australia about Compassionate Communities over the past 18 months. Overwhelmingly there was a desire for a national peak body to offer encouragement and support for those who are already fostering compassionate conversations and actions (or would like to). ? Behind the scenes, there has been a committed group of us bringing this to life in the form of Compassionate Communities Australia. ? Our?purpose is to build the capacity of Compassionate Communities across Australia in their endeavours to enable people to live, care, die and grieve supported by their community. ? Compassionate Communities Australia recognises and acknowledges the many individuals and organisations that have promoted Compassionate Communities over the past ten years. ? The aim is to bring together all of this excellent work and build on it together, with a focused and strategic approach for the next 10 years and beyond. ? We understand this is a journey and one we wish to navigate together. To support the launch and help us navigate the way ahead, we are holding a Compassionate Communities?forum?in Perth on March 26 12-3.30pm (AWST). You can also attend this?forum online, and I would like to invite you to register here: https://lnkd.in/gUfMCkdu In this?forum,?we will explore how we can work together to affect social, and system change in the short and medium term with a focus on:? -Advocacy and policy development -Research and promoting the evidence -Building partnerships -Education and development of resources -Establishing community led programs. ? Along with my fellow inaugural directors, Dr Stephen Ginsborg, Dr Joanne Doran and Harpreet Kalsi-Smith, we will be presenting on the why, what and how of Compassionate Communities Australia. ? Finally, to all those who have shared their stories with me over the past 18 months…Thank You. Your insights have ensured Compassionate Communities Australia is here.
