What Happens After The Game??? ?? Who am I if I'm not a football player? As former athlete, I've experienced this first hand. I went from hearing my name shouting out in the stands to a 2 bedroom apartment with 5 roommates. Not an ideal lifestyle... It was not fun. I was no longer popular. I no longer had practice??? That made my heart hurt. I felt like I broke up with my girlfriend, and knew she wasn't coming back. I had to rebuild. I had to reinvent. I had to pivot. I had to reinvest. I had to embrace my true identity. I had to sell a lot of phones to replace my 9-5. Today, I'm a Father Today I'm a Fiancé Today, I'm a Son Today, I'm an Entrepreneur As long as I tied my identity to my sport? I'd never been able to move forward to the next chapter in my life, If I allowed What I do, Define Who I am... It took letting go of the athlete identity to truly progress to the next chapter of my life. If my journey speaks to you, or you know someone caught in the tangle of their profession and identity, let's spread the word. Comment below, share this post, and let's dive into this dialogue together. P.S. Who we are is not just what we do. It's so much more.?? #phase1sports #athletemindset #entrepreneurship #athleteIIentrepreneur
From the field to fatherhood, your journey resonates. Embracing change and reinvention is key. Let's inspire others to find their true identities beyond their professions, Mike Waters!
Transitioning from athlete to civilian was one of the herders journeys of my life. It took me 6 years after playing before I could even enjoy football as a spectator. You always had the feeling like that chapter wasn’t properly closed (at least for me). Luckily I found other passions to, some what, fill the void but nothing compared to the love I had for the sport. I think the biggest issue is there aren’t any programs or guides to help athletes transition into normal life. Sure, you always know your chances of making it pro are slim, but no one ever walks you through the process, and as a younger person of 21-22 years old you often dont have any other experiences to guide you outside of being an athlete because you’ve essentially dedicated your whole life to being an athlete.
Your transformation into a father, fiancé, son, and entrepreneur is incredibly inspiring. It's a testament to the fact that we are not one-dimensional beings; we're complex, capable of growth and change beyond our initial defining roles. Thank you for sharing your journey so openly Mike Waters.
Your transition to embracing life as a father, fiancé, son, and entrepreneur shows the depth of personal growth and the courage it takes to step into a new chapter. It's inspiring to see someone navigate such a profound change and come out stronger Mike Waters. #brave
