Astaxanthin You might have heard the terms “fat-soluble” or “water-soluble” when it comes to vitamins and supplements. Water-soluble compounds dissolve well in water and are readily absorbed by your gastrointestinal tract with or without food. Fat-soluble vitamins and compounds don’t dissolve well in water, but they do dissolve well in fats. This means that for them to be absorbed and used by your body, they need to be taken with a fat source. It’s important to know whether the supplements are fat-soluble or water-soluble, so you can maximize absorption and get the benefits you’re looking for.? The supplements listed above are either fat-soluble or have important fat-soluble compounds, so it’s best to take them alongside a high-quality fat source like butter or MCT oil.? Vitamins and minerals can be absorbed by the body in a number of ways. They first enter our body through the food we eat. Secondly, we can take vitamin supplements to increase the amount of pertinent vitamins and minerals. There are different methods of taking medication and one of the most common methods is absorbing it in its liquid form.

Debunking Myths: Liposomal Supplements Are Just Fatty Vitamins By fact, this couldn't be further from the truth. While it’s true that liposomes are made from phospholipids, which do contain bound fatty acids, the science behind liposomal technology tells a different story. So, let's clear up the misconception. Liposomal supplements do not contain free fatty acids. The phospholipids that form liposomes create spherical vesicles, enclosing the active ingredients within them. This encapsulation is critical because it allows the active ingredients to be protected as they pass through the digestive system, preventing them from being broken down by stomach acids or enzymes. This makes liposomes a superior delivery system compared to traditional supplements. Free fatty acids, on the other hand, are simply broken-down fats and serve a completely different function. They can't form vesicles or improve nutrient absorption the way liposomes can. In essence, comparing liposomal supplements to fatty acids is like comparing an armored vehicle to a simple passenger car. Liposomes act like a shielded transport system for nutrients, enhancing absorption and bioavailability in ways free fatty acids cannot. This makes liposomal technology a significant advancement in supplement delivery, far beyond being "just fatty vitamins." ???????? ????! ?? ???????????????? ?????? ???????? ????????????! ??B vitamins are a group of water-soluble vitamins essential for several important functions in the body, including supporting metabolism and helping the body produce energy. You may already be familiar with certain B vitamins, such as vitamin B12, but, in total, there are eight different B vitamins. Collectively, this group of B vitamins is often referred to as “B complex vitamins.” The eight B vitamins are: B1 (thiamin) B2 (riboflavin) B3 (niacin) B5 (pantothenic acid) B6 (pyridoxine) B7 (biotin) B9 (folate) B12 (cobalamin) ??B vitamins are water-soluble, so they dissolve quickly in the body. Unlike fat-soluble vitamins (vitamins A, D, E, and K), water-soluble vitamins are absorbed by the body’s tissues and are not stored for long-term use. Any excess water-soluble vitamins are excreted in the urine. For this reason, regular intake of each B vitamin may be necessary to maintain optimal levels in the body. You can get most of your B vitamins from green leafy veggies, however with the depletion of nutrients from our soils and problems with gut health and digestion for full nutrient absorption, there may be the need to supplement in order to meet your body's needs. ?If you use B vitamins that are NOT methylated, like cyanocobalamin (not methylated B12) rather than methylcobalamin (methylated B12), your body may not be properly able to use the B vitamins, which means you waste your money and don’t experience the benefits of B vitamins. ??Go here to check out my Dr.Patricia appproved Fullscript supplement list. ????US residents CLICK here: https://lnkd.in/g2rWsTBH ????Canadian residents CLICK here: https://lnkd.in/gBWu8-FC

#BehindTheLabelPart11: The Mighty B Vitamin – B12 ??? As a pharmacist with years of experience in the supplement and pharmaceutical manufacturing industry, I’m excited to dive into another essential ingredient in our #BehindTheLabel series: Vitamin B12. Whether you’re a wellness enthusiast or just trying to keep your energy levels in check, this powerhouse nutrient deserves your attention! What is Vitamin B12? Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin that plays a key role in red blood cell production, DNA synthesis, and keeping your nervous system healthy. It’s also a superstar when it comes to energy metabolism – no wonder it’s often called the “energy vitamin”! ?? Fun Fact Unlike most vitamins, B12 is only naturally found in animal-based foods like meat, eggs, and dairy. That’s why vegans and vegetarians often need to supplement it. ?? Key Tip Absorbing B12 isn’t as simple as popping a pill. Your body relies on a protein called intrinsic factor in your stomach to absorb it. If you have digestive issues, low stomach acid, or conditions like pernicious anemia, your absorption might be compromised. When and How to Take It ? Morning: B12 can give you an energy boost, so it’s best taken earlier in the day. ? With or without food: Most B12 supplements are easily absorbed either way. ? Forms to look for: Methylcobalamin (active form) or cyanocobalamin (synthetic form). For those with absorption challenges, sublingual tablets or B12 injections might be recommended. Who Needs It? ? Vegans and vegetarians ?? ? People over 50 (absorption decreases with age) ? Those with gastrointestinal conditions (e.g., Crohn’s or celiac disease) ? Individuals on certain medications, like metformin or acid-reducing drugs From My Perspective as a Pharmacist As a pharmacist with experience in the supplement and pharmaceutical manufacturing industry, I’ve seen firsthand how critical it is to ensure your supplements are high quality and backed by science. B12 is a great example of an ingredient where formulation matters, so always check the label and consult a professional for guidance. Decode the Label Look for 1000 mcg or 5000 mcg doses in supplements if you are deficient – your body will only absorb what it needs, and the excess is excreted (hence the bright yellow urine!). Health Disclaimer This post is for educational purposes only and not a substitute for medical advice. Always consult your healthcare provider before starting or stopping any supplement, product, or medication. What’s your experience with Vitamin B12? Let me know in the comments! ?? #PharmacistPerspective #Supplements #VitaminB12 #HealthTips #PharmaceuticalIndustry

Why do companies put more than the RDA in their supplements? I got this question the other day asking why we, Awesome Supplements, put more than 100% of the Recommended Daily Allowance into our supplements. Because surely an RDA of a nutrient is enough, right? Is it not just a waste? The answer is both Yes and No Let me explain… So an RDA is there to provide enough of a nutrient for sufficiency to not basically have a problem. If you've got an RDA of 100 percent for all of these things and a multivitamin, it's basically saying you shouldn't have a problem. Now, there is an inherent problem with that because not all forms of vitamins and minerals are well absorbed. For example, iron is a classic one and so is magnesium. Some forms of iron and magnesium are very poorly absorbed. For example, magnesium oxide has a gut absorption rate of about 17%. If a company puts 100 percent of the RDA in, you're only getting 17 percent of the RDA because of the absorption factor. That is a big caveat with low quality multivitamins. You're not often getting all forms of these compounds that are highly absorbed and that's why they're so cheap. That's why you can buy a multivitamin for £3 or £4 off your supermarket shelf and for it probably not to do a great deal. Now what we need to be doing or thinking in my opinion from a multivitamin perspective is not thinking about sufficiency, but thinking about what is optimal. A great example is vitamin D. The government recommends 400 IUs of vitamin D a day for you essentially not to have a problem with your vitamin D status. But the research around the optimal dose is around 2,000 to 3,000 IUs per day. About Five times the amount the government is recommending. So we as consumers have to ask ourselves…‘Do I want sufficiency or do I want optimal?’ If you want the latter, then you need to be trying to find a supplement company that is fixated on helping people be in an optimal physical state. That’s why at Awesome Supplements we are driven to help you become optimal by providing scientifically backed amounts of vitamins and minerals in our Awesome Defence, so you get the optimal amount to look and feel awesome Not just the recommended amount. #RDA #quality #optimal
