Recent clinical trial results demonstrated the potential of an investigational visualization system to identify residual #breastcancer following removal of the primary specimen during initial lumpectomy. In the study, the Lumicell Direct Visualization System (DVS) identified cancer remaining after the standard-of-care lumpectomy procedure in approximately 8% of patients. In the majority of these patients, standard pathology assessment had deemed margins negative and would have left the tumor behind. I #TRONpublications I A hallmark of pancreatic #cancer (PDAC) is neural infiltration by tumor cells. A multidiscipliary research team from the Technische Universit?t München (Technical University of Munich) coordinated by Ekin Demir and Güralp Ceyhan with support of the Clinical Pathology Unit at TRON evaluated a large cohort of #PDAC patients for neural invasion in a standardized manner in tissue of resection specimen. Here, the team could establish neural invasion as a strong predictor for local tumor recurrence. Our pathologist Matthias Gaida was involved in tissue analysis in this clincial relevant project, which is a first step into a novel collaborative work with the group of Ekin Demir to deeper investigate the complex crosstalk of immune cell axis to nerves and cancer cells in PDAC.
