Science with an impact ! European funded research programs have an impact ! I am often asked if our work as academics, even in the field of #nuclear engineering has any impact ? Tax payers are well placed to ask that question, which if fact wonder about the good use of their money ! Christian Reiter post is a perfect answer to those questions. Research infrastructures such as High Flux reactors (e.g. #FRMII in Technical University of Munich, or #HFR in ILL - Institut Laue Langevin or #HFIR in Oak Ridge National Laboratory) do provide extraordinary neutron beams and detectors for extra large scientific communities. This include not only the research on medical application but also the in-core production of medical radioisotopes that would later be separated and "glued" to targeting molecules, for instance by ITM Isotope Technologies Munich SE. This combination will cure cancers, by hundreds, every day, all around the planet. The renewal of the licence of FRMII and the recent contract for lower enriched fuel between #FRMII Framatome would probably not have been possible without the continuous success of High flux reactors, research institutes, universities, fuel providers, answering collectively to competitive calls for projects, and without the European Commission supporting this kind of research #euratom projects almost continuously. EU-Qualify project in which SCK CEN, CEA, Framatome, ILL - Institut Laue Langevin, Grenoble INP - UGA and Technical University of Munich worked together is a typical example of those projects https://lnkd.in/d5nt23DH

Doctors…have you been setting unrealistic expectations of yourself and others? This is a TRAP - which can make us feel like we are failing when really we are thriving. Now don’t get me wrong I am the QUEEN of boosting self belief in others…the sky is the limit. BUT at the same time we need to recognise that as doctors we can hold ourselves accountable to the impossible, telling ourselves we can achieve something or create something in a very short space of time. It’s not that we are incapable of doing the thing, it’s just that we have set an unrealistic timeline which makes us feel like we are failing along the way, and we start to believe we can’t do it, or there’s something wrong. When the truth is you are doing the thing, you are reaching the bar… you just put the bar in the wrong spot.
