Black Women in Science and Engineering (BWISE) is wrapping up a phenomenal week at the Biomedical Engineering Society in Baltimore! We have met so many BRILLIANT students who are doing such incredible research! The entire time I was an engineering undergrad, I NEVER had a professor who looked like me! So, I can’t tell you how proud I was to see these biomedical engineering PROFESSORS at universities around the country!!! And these are just seven of the many that are attending this conference! Those of us who graduated in science and engineering know how hard it was to get these bachelors degrees, but these ladies obtained PhDs, and are now teaching the future generations of students in theses fields. The impact that their presence will have on not just students and their universities, but on inclusive healthcare in this country, is immeasurable! It’s past time for us to #BeSeen!

Good morning Baltimore! Today is the start of the Biomedical Engineering Society 2024 Annual Conference! Established in 1968, it is the professional Society for students, faculty, researchers, and industry professionals in biomedical engineering. Their mission — to promote a collaborative and inclusive community to advance human health through education, discovery, and translation — drives their research and educational initiatives, including webinars, chapter programs, and meetings. Our more than 6,800 members share a vision of health and wellness for all through engineering innovation and a steadfast commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. BMES holds an annual meeting where they have hosted up to 5,500 biomedical engineers who attend more than 2,500 scientific presentations on cancer treatment, heart disease, women’s health, global health disparities, and more. The meeting allows members to advocate for their innovative solutions, demonstrating their commitment to the Society’s core value of health equity for all individuals. In addition, BMES shares scientific information to inspire the up-and-coming generation through four scientific journals, three special interest groups, and collaboration with other scientific societies to elevate the visibility and significant impact that the biomedical engineering community has worldwide as the thought-leaders behind the future of human health. If you are in attending, come by and meet us TODAY, October 23rd for our Black Women in Science and Engineering (BWISE) networking event!
