Getting away from the day-to-day this week gave me a fresh sense of enthusiasm for the world of #MedTech. It is always a privilege share the stage with founders and investors in this space and to hear the unmet needs, solutions, opportunities, challenges and resilience of those who work in the space! Thanks to the #DisruptTech team on Monday for a very fruitful discussion on how the DTIF fund can support companies accessing private financing and for the associated discussion at the Irish Medtech RD&I event in Galway. Key takeaways: -Peer learning is essential and staying connected with fellow founders and early stage execs is key to quick learning -Grant funding will continue to play a role in early stage #MedTech allowing companies to push the boundaries of their product and technology roadmaps -Funding environment is challenging but persistence will achieve results -Highly ambitious companies and projects in Ireland will have global impact with the right supports -Scaling Irish born businesses is the next big challenge for the ecosystem Enterprise Ireland Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment Ibec

?? Excited to share my recent journey with Legislaide, where I took on two impactful projects aimed at advancing local government efficiency and driving social good. A huge thank you to Roger Lin for his mentorship, which opened my eyes to the startup world and equipped me with essential skills to kick-start my own entrepreneurial journey! Here’s a quick look at what I accomplished: 1?? Building a Comprehensive Local Government Database Developed a robust database of local government staff for U.S. cities with populations of 50K-500K, leveraging city websites and LinkedIn to compile accurate contact information for 100+ staff members. This work is helping streamline government communication and legislative processes, empowering Legislaide’s network with reliable data. 2?? Researching Funding & Partnership Opportunities Explored funding sources, grants, and innovation competitions on platforms like OpenGrants.io and grants.gov to support local government tech transformation. My analysis pinpointed promising avenues in digital government services and AI applications for equity—bringing Legislaide closer to impactful partnerships and growth opportunities. These projects gave me a firsthand look at the intersection of tech, social impact, and public service. Uncomfortable but very rewarding to participate in the UTAS Invent Program run by Cruxes Innovation. I've learnt to critically look at the impact of proposed research, not to make assumptions about what stakeholders might find of value, and to be flexible. I am not there yet, but a very good start. FYI, I am looking at supporting NFPs in their governance journeys. From clubs to community associations to large NFPs, the challenges of constrained funding yet imperatives to deliver services whilst meeting governance obligations within a confusing legal landscape, are real. And that's before we look at the people/planet/profit discussion. #researchimpact #governance
