I learned from this article that there are 2 main types of Veterinary Internships that you can take. There is rotating internship and the specialty internship. This article describes what each internship prepares you for and what they teach you. I learned that i am taking a rotating internship so i am learning the basics of being a Veterinarian and the basics of their jobs. I can apply multiple things from this article to my internship but i especially can apply the descriptions of each internship to mine.

Happy & sad - they often go together. Very happy welcoming the new 24/25 virtual veterinary intern class to their first virtual rotation; sad to say goodbye to the interns of class 23/24 - Yaiza Forcada, PhD and I cannot express how proud we are of all of them. An attempt:?Each virtual intern has pushed hard to identify and target areas of growth. Each has tried and often succeeded to be vulnerable - shown areas of uncertainty whilst suppressing the reflex to hide behind things one already knows. Our interns allowed themselves to feel uncomfortable during live cage-side rounds, in discussions with specialists and peers. They pushed themselves to read a little bit more and watched an extra few rounds sessions late at night or early in the morning every month of the year (instead of that new Netflix series!). Our interns dared to vocalise their dreams and aspirations to their mentor. This all has resulted in a growth journey that has probably been more confronting, more intense, more personal and therefore also more satisfying than it would have been without committing to the internship. To witness that, has been a true honour for us. We know that life outside of the internship has been demanding on its own; having paired it up with this internship experience and still coming out at the end of it, is something to be proud of! Certificate or no certificate, having met 100% of your learning goals or just 10% - our interns should be proud of making it to the end and having conducted one's own personal journey. Imperfect and therefore perfect. Interns: Thank you for trusting us with your growth - good luck on your further journey - we believe in you - you will be for ever part of the Veterinary Information Network Virtual Veterinary Internship family (Interested in this not-for-profit internship? www.vin.com/vvi ) #veterinary #veterinarymedicine #mentorship #growth #givingback

As I was scrolling through LinkedIn today, I couldn't help but notice a few posts from some of our so called reputed seniors. There they were, enjoying a cup of tea at a luxurious 5-star hotel, passionately discussing the "future of veterinarians" in their air-conditioned comfort over dinner. It looked like they were thinking deeply about us, but I couldn't shake off a question that's been lingering in my mind: Are they really fighting for us, or simply for themselves? Some are pushing hard for separate councils, some are racing to become the next president. But what does all this mean for the rest of us? Who is fighting for paid internships for veterinary graduates? Who is thinking about the actual issues young vets face in the real world outside of these luxury dinners and privileged circles? To my so called seniors, if you can actually make a change and secure paid internships and better opportunities for young veterinarians, then you have earned my respect as a senior. But if you cannot, then I must say, with all due respect sorry sir, you are not the leader we need. It's time for real action, not just fancy dinners and hollow discussions. #vetsneedpaidinternship #VeterinaryLeadership #VetsForChange #VeterinaryProfession #VetOpportunities #VetsSpeakUp #EmpowerVets

Practical placements are a vital part of many university degrees - I have always been a huge advocate for them - and over many years developed several internship programs with a view to providing students with the most valuable and best possible experiences during their time with us. Over the last two weeks the boot was very much on the other foot as I was the student on practical placement as a requirement for my Veterinary Technology degree at the The University of Queensland; and it reminded me very strongly of how important and career shaping these experiences can be. Like many students I have an idea of what I might like to do once I graduate however nothing beats hands on experience in a real work environment to test the waters and to learn if your chosen pathway is actually right for you. How workplaces treat their students can also lead to them embracing the profession with enthusiasm or quitting in despair. Over the last two weeks I was fortunate enough to have an exemplary experience at the Redlands Veterinary Clinic. It is an exceptionally busy practice, but despite all the hustle and bustle that goes on behind the scenes, as with any hospital environment, every single staff member always had time to answer my questions, explain what to do and provided me with opportunities to learn. What is the result of that experience? A student that is now absolutely sure that they have chosen the right profession and want to carry on. At a time when so many professions are experiencing massive staff shortages - veterinary practices being one of them - it goes without saying that looking after the professionals of the future is of paramount importance. When everyone is busy and students can seem like a burden on your day, just remember that they may be the person that one day might be working alongside you, helping your day run just that little more smoothly. Thanks to Redlands Vets I am now more committed than ever to complete my degree and can't wait to get started working in a veterinary practice for real. That's one more person in the workforce. What are you doing to ensure you nurture the new talent of the future? #veterinary #vettech #vetnurse #maturestudent #university #internship #students #nevertoolate #everythingispossible #uq #redvet

I found this article about why or why not people should do a veterinary internship, and found it very interesting. They discussed how they can help students build up their skills and experiences before?they fully enter?a career.?They also stress the importance of doing?your?research and joining a good internship program, as many of them can be different and very competitive, and?can?be hard to get into some programs.?I can use the information from this article to encourage myself to gain more experiences by asking questions and asking to help when I can, it?can also be used to help show the importance of researching programs I could go into after I have graduated high school and can start my college studies. ?#alpinecteinternships #mountainlandcte Alpine School District CTE Internships https://lnkd.in/gCHdCtT3

What excites this internship is that I can directly learn the operation methods behind the zoo and this is also a unique opportunity to direct contact with animals and share animal knowledge with tourists. Interacting with tourists, especially sharing animal fun to them, not only helps me deepen my understanding, but also exercise my communication ability. During the internship, my business was very extensive. For example, on the knowledge of polar bear, I will use some interesting ball -throwing games to increase challenges. This challenge game can fully mention the children's interest. What impressed me most was the immersive experience of giraffe feeding. We need to prepare the ingredients required for feeding activities in advance, attract giraffes with food and participate in tourists interaction. In these close -range feeding, I got the opportunity to observe animal behavior in detail. I can clearly observe the eyelashes and skin texture of their eyes, especially when the giraffe shows signs of discomfort, these observations help veterinarians to confirm the disease. This internship not only provided the opportunity to observe the animal habits at close range, but also exercised the ability to convey complex information to the public in a happy and easy way.

"What skills did I gain/ or improve on from my internship?" Throughout my internship at Brickyard Animal Hospital I learned a variety of new skills including: -Taking Temperature, Pulse, and Respiration (TPRs) -Preparing Animals for Surgery -Updating Patient Charts My role as an intern was to assist veterinary technicians. This included monitoring pets and taking their vital signs. On the first day, I was immediately handed a stethoscope and a thermometer, then thrown right into the action. While it was nerve racking in the beginning, it eventually became a natural part of my day and I became more accurate and confident in my abilities to take TPRs. During my internship, I also learned how to assist with surgeries. This was especially exciting for me as surgery has always been a particular interest of mine. As a result, placing EKG wires, helping intubate, and positioning the animals for surgery was very interesting. In addition, learning how to monitor vital signs both manually and through a machine gave me a deeper understanding of an animal’s health and allowed me to render better help. This often included updating patient charts to display accurate information and communicating with staff about any concerns. Ultimately, I was excited to be immersed in a medical setting and have the ability to be part of a team. By the end of my internship I realized the importance of collaboration, planning, and delegation in an animal hospital. These are skills I carry into my life today throughout school and other activities.
