Why do single glazed #sash and #casement #windows always feel cold and draughty? Well, single glazing is a very poor insulator and it not only allows cold in, it allows heat out. If you heat a room to 20 degrees and it is 0 degrees outside then the surface temperature of the single glazing glass will be in the region of 4 to 5 degrees. This is cold and it seems like the windows are draughty but in fact it is just the glass that's cold. Now, If you replaced the single glazing with FINEO #Vacuumglazing then the surface temperature of the glass increases to 18 degrees or the glass is 13 degrees warmer and thus the cold spotting is elimiminated. FINEO by AGC Glass Europe is the only #vacuumglazing manufactured in Europe and the only vacuum glazing to have full #CE marking. Curtain walls are engineered wall systems that give buildings their modern, glassy look. They come in two main types, each with its own benefits: ?? Unitized Systems – Prefabricated in the shop for quicker and more efficient installation on-site. ?? Stick Systems – Assembled on-site, which shortens shop fabrication time but requires greater care in the field. Regardless of the system, maintaining quality control is crucial for ensuring both durability and performance. Each method is designed to deliver beautiful, functional building facades, but the best choice depends on the specific needs and timeline of the project! #BuildingDesign #CurtainWalls #ModernArchitecture #ConstructionInnovation #GlassWalls #UnitizedSystems

Designing it is one thing, finding a team to bring it to life? That’s another story ?? This triple-laminated SGP pool window is no ordinary panel. At 60mm thick, it’s built to handle serious loads while keeping the design seamless. (Yeah, that’s a 60mm slab of glass holding back a pool ??) For architects, builders, and estimators, sourcing specialty glazing is so much more than just ticking a box… it’s about confidence. Confidence that what’s designed can actually be built, without compromise. Confidence in a team that understands the complexity and delivers, every time. If you’re tired of the gap between vision and execution, let’s talk. This is going to be a long read, but if you are a building envelope professional, I assure you, it is worth reading. Interlocking pieces between unitised facade systems panels. Are they needed? Not always. Where are they needed? Specifically in female-female (symmetrical half mullions) unitised facade systems, interconnected only by link gaskets. When are they needed? Any time we have either large static inertia value differences between mullions, or when there is a significant horizontal span difference between adjacent panels, or where there is a large external fin attachment to one of the half mullions (falls into large static inertia difference), or where there is a sudden transition between wind zones on the facade system. Why are they needed? To avoid large differential deformations that would risk the vertical link gaskets engagement, or would push one of the half mullions beyond the maximum deflection limit, or would push one of the half mullions beyond the internal stress limit. Where should they be positioned? They should be installed at the midpoint between the building anchoring points. Let me elaborate: In the proximity the anchoring points, we cannot have differential deflection. The maximum differential deflection occurs in the middle of the span. To make the installation of a Female-Female (with vertical alignment blades, or spigots) easier, these pieces should be longer than the spigots engagement between the panels. This is because the panels are first engaged sideways, then slid down in the final position. If the interlock pieces are shorter than the vertical sliding of the panel, due to the tight tolerance between them, they will collide and obstruct the vertical sliding of the installed panel into the final resting position. You may lose precious minutes fiddling, trying to get these pieces aligned so that you can slide the panel down. If these pieces are longer than the vertical blades, then they will engage laterally before the vertical downward movement of the panel over the spigots of the panel below. Calculation of the interlock pieces both for internal stresses as well as rotation and pull forces onto the connection screws, must be conducted, to determine the final geometry, cutting length, diameter and number of screws needed for the mullion connection. #facadeengineering #curtainwall #highrise #facade #buildingenvelope #structuraldesign #facadedesign #architects #glass

A curtain wall mullion is a critical structural element designed to support and align the infill panels, typically glass, within a curtain wall system. The mullion functions as both a vertical and, in some cases, horizontal framing component, providing structural integrity to the fa?ade while accommodating thermal expansion, building movement, and external loads such as wind pressure. The mullion is engineered to transfer these loads to the primary building structure, often via connections to the slab or structural columns. Typically composed of aluminum, steel, or other high-strength materials, the mullion's cross-sectional geometry is optimized for stiffness and load-bearing capacity while minimizing thermal bridging. This optimization often involves a combination of extrusion profiles and reinforcing elements, designed to meet specific project requirements, including wind load resistance, seismic performance, and thermal insulation. In addition, mullions are designed to integrate with various sealant systems, gaskets, and glazing tapes to ensure airtight and watertight performance. They may also accommodate other functional elements such as sunshades, blinds, or operable windows. The selection of the mullion profile and its material is a critical aspect of curtain wall design, balancing structural requirements, aesthetic considerations, and the overall energy efficiency of the building envelope.
