How do you like your eggs? It’s been awhile since I’ve done a ‘category performance’ post. I thought I’d get back into an ‘insightful’ post and chat about eggs! I love a good egg for breakfast. I’m a soft egg kinda girl. ??soft poached (I make wonky ones)?? ??soft boiled (it’s a fine line between runny & hard) ??scrambled (the worst pan to wash up) ??and my kid’s favourite, double flipped! It’s a category: ??Worth over £1.1 billion. ??2/3rd of sales are from own brands. ??Bird flu, a supply chain crisis & egg rationing hit supply in recent times. ?? The margin for growers is very low. Probably not the most lucrative business to go into. The average prices for ??are: A 6 pack is £3.13, up 9%. Thats 52p an?? A 10 pack is £3.75, up 12%. 38p an ?? A 12 pack is £3.55, up 8%. 30p an ?? A 15 pack is £2.46, up 16%. 16p an ?? It’s one category bucking a trend in this cost of living crisis & seeing branded products out performing own label. Branded vol is +14% and value +38% Own label vol is -3% and value +24% The growth in branded eggs has been driven by ‘added-value’ egg benefits, like rich yolks. So basically fancier eggs, those brighter yellow orange ones that are all over instagram, are growing in demand. Personally, I’d never want to come back as chicken, or a donkey, but that a different story. Poor donkeys ?? In 2016, the ???? big retailers committed to going cage free by 2025. It’s a self imposed deadline, which #Morrisons have already met ??. There’s still c.8 million hens in colony cages in the uk ??. Not a good life. Do you love a good egg? What’s your favourite way to eat an egg? When do you eat eggs? #opentowork #marketingjobs #eggs ____________________________________ I’m Jo: I transform the growth of brands: by ↗? The US pork industry is facing a decline in demand from younger consumers, with an expected loss of 2 pounds per capita over the next decade. This is roughly equivalent to half of the US shrimp per capita consumption! The shrimp industry can attract younger Americans with its antibiotic-free and lower fat protein offerings. Shrimp has so much more upside then the other animal proteins. https://lnkd.in/ehzz7uas

Not my typical post. While hanging out at the pool today, I heard a couple of parents talking about the cost of groceries. As a new resident of SC, I have, in general, found prices to be a little less than Illinois. For instance, premium gas is about $1 less per gallon. Food always seems pricey as you can measure your typical load and this week it might be $200 while last week it was $175. Sure the load might be different, but all the buyer sees is the delta in cost. One of the moms mentioned she had 4 sons. That sounds like my mother and what she did, and what I copied from her, was to buy a whole or partial steer from a local farm. This is SC - we have a ton of farms. I suggested the check out craigslist or check with friends. You can buy a ton of meet, often without antibiotics and other harmful meds, for a lot less than the local grocery store and the quality was so much better. I quarter cow is a lot of beef. In our case, it was enough for almost a year. Its cheaper to buy a whole cow and split it amongst friends, and we did that several times, but it is a little daunting to see several hundred white paper wrapped cuts of beef and hundreds of tubes of ground beef. The cool thing is you can decide what you want. You want thicker steaks - ok. You dont want odd steaks (there are dozens of types of steaks and roasts in a cow) that you never had before - ok, the butcher will stick with the commercial cuts and you will get more ground beef. Most of the cows I bought were grass fed and finished. The beef is a little healthier than those finished with grain, and the taste is better IMO. When you buy a cow you can have everything, and I do mean everything. I regret not buying every single big bone for my dog. He loved them and I knew they weren't treated with anything. Along these same lines is a service called Community Supported Agriculture. Here you contract with a local farm and every period (week, 2 weeks, month?) you receive a box of stuff that the farmer grows. If you want organic and lower amounts of pesticides / antibiotics and antibiotics, this might be a path that doesn't require you to write a huge check to Whole Foods. Good luck.

Ever wonder what makes your dairy cow tick when it comes to milk production? Let's break it down into simple terms: 1. Large udder: Dairy cows have a well-developed udder with four teats from which milk is extracted. 2. Prominent veins: Visible veins on the udder and surrounding areas facilitate milk production and transport. 3. Well-developed mammary glands: Dairy cows have well-developed mammary glands that produce and secrete milk. 4. Wide pelvic region: This allows for easier calving, as dairy cows give birth to calves regularly to maintain milk production. 5. Strong legs: Dairy cows need strong legs to support their body weight and navigate uneven terrain, especially when moving between grazing areas and the milking parlor. 6. Large barrel-shaped body: This provides ample room for digestion and fermentation of the large quantities of forage and grain that dairy cows consume to support milk production. 7. Large appetite: Dairy cows typically have a voracious appetite to meet their high energy demands for milk production. 8. Grazing behavior: Dairy cows have a natural inclination to graze on pasture, though many are also fed a combination of hay, silage, and concentrated feed. 9. Horns (in some breeds): While many modern dairy cows are dehorned for safety reasons, some breeds may retain their horns, which are used for defense and social interactions within the herd. 10. Smooth coat: Dairy cows typically have a smooth coat that may vary in color depending on the breed, ranging from white and black to various shades of brown. From their udders to their legs, dairy cows are incredible animals that make the delicious milk we enjoy every day. #DairyCows #MilkMakers #FarmLife ??????

FREEDOM... Wellness and Longevity Tip Left or Right??? Know what you’re buying. This picture has store beef(right), and farm beef(left). There is an obvious visible difference between the two but the differences don’t stop there! 1. You may notice the color difference in the picture. The store bought is pumped full of additives and preservatives, including propyl gallate, to protect against spoilage due to long term air exposure. 2. There isn’t a guarantee of where that beef came from, OR how many cows are in it. Yes, it may have the USDA label on it but as long as that animal was packaged in the US, it can be called a Product of the USA. And yes, the meat in the right package is not from one single cow, rather scraps from multiple cows. It may have come from Argentina, Canada, or Brazil. 3. The beef on the left is fresher, darker and is farm raised beef. It is filled with more nutrients & flavor. The ground is also from one cow and not just low quality scraps from multiple cows. Buy from a local farm! ?????
