Can you make a difference to animal shelters if you can't adopt or foster? Absolutely YES! Summer is a particularly exciting time for shelters. With warm weather comes an influx of pets, and while it might seem challenging, it's also an opportunity for communities to come together and support these wonderful animals. Trends come and go—during the pandemic, many people adopted puppies for companionship. Now, with life returning to a busy routine, some find they need extra help caring for their pets. That's where our incredible community steps in to ensure every pet finds the love and care they deserve. There's a constant flow of animals, especially dogs, who are ready to be loved. This is where YOU can shine. Now is the perfect time to make a difference, even if you can't adopt a dog. (Though if you can, there are HUNDREDS of wagging tails ready for a forever home at shelters around the country. ??. Donate food. Most shelters welcome unopened bags or cans of food, so if you have any surplus or your pet didn't take to a certain brand, consider donating it to your local shelter. ? ? Donate your time. From comforting animals to prepping toys and treats, there's always something you can help with. Your time and compassion can make a world of difference, ensuring these pets feel loved and cared for. As a visual storyteller, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful a single image can be in raising awareness and driving action. Through my work, I strive to capture the essence of these incredible animals and the tireless efforts of those who care for them. Every snapshot tells a story, and every story has the potential to inspire others to act. Together, let’s bridge the gap between animal rescue and the booming pet industry, using empathy and connection to make a tangible impact. Whether it's through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading the word, your actions matter. Let’s make a difference—one wagging tail at a time. ?? ?? Just shy of the six week countdown to the Round the Clock Rescue Run I want to share (for myself at least) an unprecedented work selfie. Yes I am holding puppies in a baby carrier, as I worked flexibly (enormous thank you to Integrion Consulting and BHP for facilitating this) to be able to foster them until they were old enough to be adopted (there was a third running around somewhere in the background too). This unprecedented moment is as a result of unprecedented challenges facing the Dogs’ Refuge Home (DRH), Shenton Park (echoed at animal refuges globally) with: - Unprecedented numbers of surrenders due to the cost of living crisis. Last Sunday the DRH had ~200 dogs in its care and it managed to find the resources to accept an additional 23 puppies from rural Western Australia. - Unprecedented numbers of domestic animals not being sterilised, with unsterilised surrenders at the DRH increasing from ~44% to ~74% in the past five years. Did you know one unsterilised female dog and her unsterilised litters over a period of 6 years can produce 67,000 unplanned puppies! - Unprecedentedly low adoption to surrender rates. The DRH is a no kill shelter and the only way they can help more dogs is through adoptions. One of its beloved residents has been in the DRH’s care for more than 900 days! - Unprecedented operating expenses (as resources are needing to be spread even more thinly), which will need to be filled by the generosity of the community. - Unprecedented (I hope, but sadly I know I might have embellished the uniqueness of this tragedy) animal mistreatment, with puppies and expectant mum’s being left in rubbish bins with no way to escape unless found by strangers or local Rangers. The DRH has responded to circumstances like this twice in the last month! These ‘unprecedented’ factors are just some of the drivers motivating the Round the Clock Rescue Run, as Willie Richards and I try and raise crucial funds for the DRH. If you’re interested in getting involved as a Running Allie or Challenge Champion, please reach out, as ultimately the more legs this challenge grows, the more paws that can be supported ?? We do a lot in the United States to help pets in peril. If you've welcome a rescue dog or cat into your life -- as millions of Americans have done in the past decade -- your own actions are a case in point. But do we somehow end up overlooking the challenges of less-fortunate pet owners themselves? One of America's largest animal-welfare philanthropies, Maddie's Fund, has been thinking a lot lately about the animal-companion bond. Editor-at-Large George Anders takes you inside a big strategic shift that Maddie's Fund has made in the past six years, addressing the high cost of pet care -- and the ways that unstable housing arrangements can put pet owners in jeopardy. https://bit.ly/4cToILU SPCA; The Humane Society of the United States

National Director of Navigation Channel Sales ([email protected]) | Non-Profit Founder ([email protected]) | Executive Board Member | Animal Advocate
2024 was a journey. In many cases, just putting one foot in front of the other and hoping for the best. What I learned - ??Support systems are crucial. Friends and family for love and comfort, and people with diversified mindsets and skills to surround yourself with for your own self-growth. ??You CAN hit the ground running on a new idea or concept without a plan and still end up successful. But having a plan makes it much easier, faster and so much less stress. ??There are some people that will be oil to your water. No matter what you do or how hard you try, those people will find ways to put you down while wearing a smile. Let them go. Sooner rather than later. Accomplishments - ??Started a 501c3 non-profit -FBCA, Inc. - Friends of Baker County Animals. Adopted out 4 kittens, developed a partnership that saved 28 cats/kittens from being homeless on the streets and had over 120+ cats/kittens spayed/neutered in just 4 months. ??Organized and hosted my first fundraiser - Heroes for Hounds - by partnering with the local American Legion. 3 days of activities, one dog adopted from Baker County Animal Control, and raised over $10k which was shared between local non-profits for veterans, dog and cat rescues, and spay/neuter efforts. ??Became a board member for FIX THEM ALL - what a wonderful organization! This group truly cares about the wellbeing of animals and strives to do all they can to create and maintain programs for rural counties in North Central Florida to subsidize spay/neuter surgeries for dogs and cats, making it affordable for anyone and to help curb the ever rising numbers of strays, dumps and homeless animals here in Florida. ??Started an AirBnB - I had no idea how this would go and have set my expectations low. But….first month bookings were 16 days booked out of 19 available. My resolutions for 2025 are less tangible than previous years - ??Spend MORE time with family and friends - not just the big moments and holidays. ??MAKE the time to plan out concepts and ideas. I can accomplish more when I’m proactive versus reactive. Plus it’s less stressful and more cost-effective. ??Be Kind - to others but especially myself. I always strive for this and always will. Stay more in my lane, focus on what I can control, let go of what I can’t, forgive but don’t forget, and while I can’t be perfect, I can be better. ??Be grateful - for my job that affords me to live a comfortable life and allows me the flexibility and financial stability to pursue my personal endeavors. For my family and friends for being supportive, loving, gracious, and patient with me this year. For God - who I don’t pray to or thank enough. He has been with me so much this year and has truly made the roads I’ve taken much easier than they could have been, and clearer to see they were the right path. I only want love, happiness, and prosperity for you all. Make 2025 a year you can reflect on and be truly proud of yourself. Love you all ??

I am calling EVERYONE OUT on this to do something about this. 7400 killings per day (that number was 5500 only 2 years ago). MORE details in the comment section. FYI EVERYONE! For almost 3 years I have offered 100's of broke animal rescues starving and CRYING for donations... yet they change NOTHING (the living definition of insanity) FREE fundraisers that will actually appeal/give back/REWARD the followers for supporting them growing monthly in revenue for the FOREVER! ALL rescues except 1 in Texas (where I orignially posted this note re: another dog being killed in a shelter) have refused my FREE help. Rescues foolishly believe they're making a difference (how, when 2 cats produce 420,000 kittens in only 7 years?), maybe it's ego, vanity... or just a complete lack of business common sense. 7400 cats and dogs are killed DAILY in US and Cdn. shelters alone, that's 2.7 MILLION annually... 1 every 10 seconds. What will YOU help ME do about this NOW? www.TessasLegacyCafe.com Only 2 years ago that number was 5500 per day. Rescues aren't even keeping up anymore. When they refuse to adapt to this new, permanent GLOBAL (it's not a Biden/Trump or Turdeau thing), the are choosing to FAIL these animals. FOLLOW MY PAGE HERE for the ONLY COLLECTIVE PLAN IN THE WORLD TO EMPTY THE SHELTERS. PUSH YOUR LOCAL RESCUES TO CONTACT ME, YES... YOU CONTACT THEM, SEND THEM TO ME. Not a single rescue out there is ADRESSING THE REAL ISSUE OF THE ANIMAL BIRTHRATE EXPLOSION. Less keyboarding, MORE doing by EVERYONE.
