As we gather to commemorate Memorial Day, let's take a moment to honor not only the brave men and women who have served our country but also the courageous service dogs who have stood alongside them. As you celebrate this important day, remember that large gatherings and celebrations can be overwhelming for our dogs. Here are a few tips to ensure they stay comfortable and safe during Memorial Day festivities: PROVIDE A QUIET SPACE: If you’re hosting or attending a busy event, make sure there’s a quiet, safe spot for your dog to retreat to if the festivities get too overwhelming. MONITOR FOOD AND TREATS: With barbecues and outdoor meals, be vigilant about what your dog might snatch up. Keep unhealthy or unsafe foods out of reach. KEEP THEM SECURE: If your celebration includes a lot of coming and going, make sure your dog can't slip out through an open door. Check that your yard is secure if they'll be spending time outside. FIREWORKS - if you are attending a fireworks celebration leave your dogs safelyat home. Let’s ensure this Memorial Day is enjoyable for everyone in the family, including our four-legged friends. The best way to protect livestock is to use livestock husbandry methods that proactively and consistently guard against predation. It’s not rocket science. It’s just generations of predator free landscapes (human dominated) have lowered the standard of care for owning livestock. And why allow unprotected livestock in wildlife habitat? Livestock and humans are overpopulated worldwide. Let’s make room for restoring and sustaining nature. Yes, that requires change but our current collective actions have brought us to the brink of biological collapse. We have to choose #naturepositive alternatives going forward or suffer the consequences of depending on monocultures that are ultimately the greatest threat to human survival. #naturebasedsolutions #biodiversity #coexistence

?? Rabies is a serious viral disease that can affect mammals, including humans, and is typically transmitted through bites or scratches from an infected animal. Rabies can also be contracted if the saliva from an infected animal comes into contact with the mucous membranes (eyes, nose or mouth). Chief Inspector Jaco Pieterse talked to Carte Blanche about Cape Fur Seals and the precautionary steps taken to avoid the spread of rabies in the Cape Metropole area. Today, we honor and celebrate their service and sacrifice. Looking for ways to celebrate the day? Here are some ideas: - If you work with or train a military or law enforcement dog, make the day extra special for them. - Contact your representatives and encourage them to support a K-9 Veterans Day on the state or national level. - Support K-9 Courage, a group that provides healthcare assistance to retired police and military dogs, and gives support to service dogs who assist veterans with post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury. You could help raise funds or have your own dog participate in "Dogs Salute Dogs." - Learn about notable dogs who have served in the military, such as Sgt.
