?? Job Update ?? I recently reflected on my very first job experience, and I just had to share. I got hired as a bank teller, super excited for my first day. A customer walked in and asked me to check her balance. Being the eager employee that I was, I did what any good teller would do: I helped her check her balance by giving her a little push! Well, let’s just say that I was promptly laid off before my first day even ended. ?? I hated my bosses! So when I joined Diamond Bank(now Access Bank) I was employed as a front desk teller. We were 6 tellers in that branch. I enjoyed my job and as my OPs head favorite, I had no serious issues at work. But here's my major problem with my boss, she was always switching my desk and giving me new tasks even when that wasn't my own job function, she made sure I did them.I felt she was over using me and wasn't pleased with that. Fast forward to when I got an employment with Guaranty Trust Bank(now GTCO) as a transaction officer, there were already 12 transaction officers in that branch, I was delegated to a special desk posting over 2,000 tickets which doesn't include other tasks I handled. As if that wasn't enough, One morning I resumed work , only to be asked to sign on at the customer service desk, because one of them was removed due to constant issues with customers. Ah! I felt terrible and unhappy, that desk has a different job function and many things I don't know there. But then, I had to learn on the job, made mistakes, learnt from them, became better and was one of the best at that desk. Then finally, I was transferred to another branch and same thing happened, tasks were added and I handled 2 special desk on different occasions. Boom! my new OPs head asked me to resume at the customer service desk again and this time, I wasn't unhappy because I had come to love my job as a problem solver??. The way customers come to me with problems and go back smiling with some hopes, made me fulfilled. In all of my years at work, I realized I was constantly switched from one desk to another because I was effective and efficient in my course of duty. I learnt every new desk very fast and adapt immediately. My curiosity to learn new things also contributed to my success at each desk, and finally how I empathetically resolved customers issues and concerns made my bosses rely on me with rest of mind?? Stepping into my previous role at Access Bank Plc - my first as a Customer Service personnel. I thought it would just be about answering questions and solving problems. Little did I know, this role would shape me into a better version of myself. Most notably, I got a complete and personal understanding of EMPATHY; a skill that makes you not just willing to help but also to go to whatever length it will take to achieve customer satisfaction. Every interaction taught me; - to see things from the customer’s perspective - making me less selfish - to understand their frustration or joy - to respond with patience and kindness - making me a sweet gentleman ??. This didn’t just make me better at my job, but it also changed how I deal with people in my personal life—I'm more compassionate and open-minded. I thought COMMUNICATION was about exhausting my vocabulary when I have the opportunity and winning every debate. I learned practically, that effective communication needs more listening than talking. Whether calming an angry customer or guiding someone through a process, it seemed like I had a superpower. This has boosted my confidence and made me a more assertive person in everyday situations. Another huge takeaway is resilience. Some workdays seem hectic and quite overwhelming, but customer service taught me how to handle pressure, stay calm in tough situations, and bounce back quickly. This has translated into how I tackle challenges outside of work as well. Ultimately, Customer Service has been more than just a job for me—it's a personal growth journey. It's made me more patient, empathetic, and resilient, and these qualities continue to shape who I am today. #CustomerServiceWeek2024 #AboveAndBeyond
