From Silence to Outrage: Rape in the 20th vs. 21st Century In the 20th century, rape was often swept under the rug—blamed on victims, ignored by the law, or dismissed as a private matter. Survivors were silenced, shamed, or made to relive their trauma in a system designed to protect perpetrators. It was a world where “boys will be boys” was a valid excuse, and justice was a rare, bitter victory. Fast forward to the 21st century, and while progress has been made, the rage remains justified. Survivors are louder, communities are fighting back, and movements like #MeToo have shattered the culture of silence. But let’s not pretend we’re done here. Rape culture persists in our courts, our media, and our conversations. Victim-blaming is still alive, and headlines still use phrases like "alleged assault" or "compromising situation," as though language can soften brutality. We’re angry because we should be. Angry that it took this long. Angry that it’s not over. Angry because rape is not a statistic—it’s a violation of humanity. The 20th century taught us that silence protects the guilty. The 21st century demands outrage, accountability, and relentless action. Anything less is complicity. #EndRapeCulture #NoExcuse #SurvivorsVoices #AccountabilityNow #JusticeForAll

Do you know what the word zeitgeist means? English zeitgeist /tsartgaist/ "-TSAIHTGAIHST" ETYMOLOGY 1 ? Borrowed from German Zeitgeist (literally "time-spirit"). Equivalent to tide + ghost. NOUN ? The spirit of the age; the taste, outlook, and spirit characteristic of a period This phrase closely relates to 2 Corinthians 4:4, where the Apostle Paul discusses the influence of the “god of this age” on people’s ability to perceive the truth. The verse reads: “In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God” (2 Corinthians 4:4, ESV). Key Points from this Verse: 1. “The god of this world”: ? This phrase is often interpreted as referring to Satan or a spiritual force that dominates the present world system, leading people away from God. The “god of this age” has a level of influence over the present worldly order and works to deceive people. 2. Blinding of Minds: ? The blinding of minds implies a spiritual or intellectual blockage that prevents people from understanding and accepting the truth of the Gospel. This metaphorical blindness keeps individuals from perceiving “the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ.” 3. Unbelief: ? The verse specifically mentions that it is the minds of unbelievers that are blinded. This highlights the spiritual battle between truth and deception, where unbelief leads to a lack of understanding of God’s revelation through Christ. 4. The Gospel as Light: ? Paul contrasts the blindness with the “light of the gospel,” emphasizing that the Gospel reveals the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. This light is what dispels the darkness or blindness caused by the “god of this age.” The Broader Context: In the surrounding verses, Paul is discussing the challenges he and other apostles face in spreading the Gospel. He contrasts the hidden nature of the Gospel to those who are perishing (unbelievers) with its illuminating power for those who believe. The “blinding” is seen as part of a spiritual battle, where the forces opposed to God seek to prevent people from coming to faith. Application to the “Spirit of the Age”: The “spirit of the age” can be understood as the prevailing mindset or cultural ethos that is influenced by the “god of this world.” This spirit can manifest in ideologies, values, and practices that obscure or oppose the truth of the Gospel, leading people into spiritual blindness. Thus, Paul’s teaching in 2 Corinthians 4:4 serves as a warning about the powerful influences at work in the world that can hinder people from embracing the truth, and it underscores the importance of spiritual discernment and the transformative power of the Gospel.

Conformity to the World: ? In Romans 12:2, Paul writes, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” This verse suggests that believers are to resist the pressures of the prevailing culture or “spirit of the age” and instead align themselves with God’s will. 2. The Spirit of Antichrist: ? 1 John 4:3 states, “And every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.” The “spirit of the antichrist” can be understood as a pervasive influence that opposes Christ and promotes deception, which is often associated with the broader concept of the “spirit of the age.” 3. The Prince of the Power of the Air: ? Ephesians 2:2 refers to the “prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience.” This passage indicates that there is a spiritual force at work in the world that influences people to live in opposition to God’s ways. 4. Loving the World: ? 1 John 2:15-17 warns, “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” Here, “the world” can be seen as representing the collective mindset and values of the age that are contrary to God’s kingdom. 5. Spiritual Discernment: ? In 1 Corinthians 2:12, Paul contrasts the spirit of the world with the Spirit of God: “Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God.” This highlights the importance of spiritual discernment to recognize and reject the spirit of the age. In summary, the Bible acknowledges the existence of a worldly spirit or influence that works against God’s truth and urges believers to be discerning, resist conformity, and live according to the Spirit of God. This “spirit of the age” can manifest in various cultural, philosophical, and ideological trends that run contrary to biblical teachings.

Men, it seems I need to mansplain something to you: The invisible 10%. You're probably a good guy who treats women and minorities with respect. You don't often observe overt misogyny or racism in your daily life, and you treat everyone equally - so you think the world is rosy! But here's the thing: It happens when you're not looking. A lot. 10% of us are still assholes straight out of the 60's - and we do it when no one's around. We do it in DM's, we do it on empty streets, we do it when we have her alone in the lunch room, our office, the board room, or at that dinner that was supposed to be a professional meeting. I'm making up the 10% (in reality it's probably between 5% and 50%, depending on the country) - but they're present - and here's the kicker: The effect of their invisible catcalls, insults, unwanted advances and demeaning treatment is cumulative. I only realized this in the last 10 years after having some deep conversations with my wife and sister (over wine) and was shocked to hear a multitude of first hand stories of behaviour from men that I thought extinct because "I don't behave that way" and had never observed it myself. Not one-off incidents, but a litany of consistently terrible experiences - from when they were young girls all the way to present - and all consistently "invisible" because they occur when no one is around or watching. The cumulative effect of this is that the women around us live in a different world. We coast through it - with our share of trials and tribulations - but they have all the same troubles and challenges - PLUS - they have to deal with this hidden world of assholes and misogynists that lurk around every corner and have been stalking them their entire lives. I'm not trying to be some 'woke warrior' - I'm really not. But I have a lot of respect for women and only in more recent years have I come to appreciate that women's lived experience - even today - even in the same city - same town - same household - differ dramatically from men's in this way. They have been dealing with the invisible 10% their entire lives. So - even if you're a great guy who's always treated women with respect - you need to realize it's not an equal and level playing field. In your interactions with women (or other groups where this could apply) the least you can do is take extra care to be professional and respectful. Learn the meaning of an "Ad Hominem" attack and avoid using them. Maybe you're not a Misogynist - maybe you're an asshole to everyone equally - but you need to realize that your personal attacks are going to reverberate differently with someone who's been dealing with the invisible 10% their entire life. Professionals and leaders should be aware of this. Do better. Be better. https://lnkd.in/edVjkHX6
