CROW OPS | 513th EWS Supports CENTCOM Operations Recently, our 513th Electronic Warfare Squadron worked with the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division to support reprogramming mission data files for U.S. Marine Corps' F-35s aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), cutting their schedule reprogramming time in half to meet mission requirements. “Our team cut days off our timeline to release the data in support of theater priorities,” said Cmdr. Alexander Sandroni, 513th EWS commander. “The scope and thoroughness of the update, combined with our accelerated timeline, highlighted the importance of open communication and adapting dynamically to the needs of our customers.” With over 100 intelligence updates and design enhancements, the 513th EWS boosted the F-35 Lightning II's capabilities, ensuring Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 314 aboard USS Abraham Lincoln is mission-ready while they operate within the U.S. Naval Forces Central Command / U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations. Royal Navy Seeks Long-Range Anti-Submarine Weapon The Royal Navy is looking for a new missile system that can launch torpedoes from its Type 26 frigates. This Long Range Anti-Submarine Warfare weapon (LRAW) aims to counter the increasing range of modern submarine-launched torpedoes, exceeding 50km. While the U.S. Navy's Vertical Launch Anti-Submarine Rocket (VLA) is compatible with the Type 26's Mk41 launch system, its current range of approximately 10km falls short. It is a multi-mission submarine that can perform various tasks such as attacking enemy ships and submarines, gathering intelligence, supporting special operations, and detecting enemy submarines. Key characteristics of fast attack submarines include: Speed: Over 20 knots (23 mph) Stealth: Designed to be quiet using advanced materials and designs Maneuverability: Can make sharp turns and rapid changes in direction Range: Typically over 8,000 miles (13,000 km) Payload: Can carry torpedoes, missiles, and sensors Examples of fast attack submarines include : the US Navy's Virginia-class SSN, the Russian Navy's Akula-class SSN, the British Royal Navy's Astute-class SSN, the French Navy's Barracuda-class SSN.
