Adult education programs are not just a second chance at a basic education; for many adults in Pennsylvania, these programs are the last chance. Our programs connect the untapped labor force of under-skilled adults to employers in need of workers. We can't do this on our own, we NEED your help. Check out our advocacy website https://lnkd.in/gQkAhFGD to read more about this line item in our PAACE White Paper FY 24-25. Don't forget you can also look at success stories from our members and submit a story or three yourself. Last week I gave testimony at the Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry into Education. Education is the #1 issue families raise with us and I shared what we hear from families about their children's experience of education: -Lack of reasonable adjustments -Exclusion of students, including reduced hours -Not enough focus on literacy, numeracy and vocational opportunities -Limited supervision that means children can hurt themselves or be hurt by others I also spoke up for what families tell us helps makes education better: -An inclusive, can-do attitude from Principals -Support for teachers to implement reasonable adjustments -Increased accountability and transparency You can read more about the inquiry here https://lnkd.in/gDzrh_Ww #disabilityadvocacy #education #studentswithdisability

How do you align the company's vision with training goals? Our expert shares a unique approach: taking policies that impact education and creating on-ramps for diverse populations and beliefs. By doing this, we create a space that allows everyone to accept policies and programs that they may have previously rejected. This approach ultimately supports the success of the 1.6 million public school children in New Jersey. #TrainingGoals #Education #DiversityAndInclusion

If we need to accelerate progress and ensure the equitable expansion of quality education, we must focus on significantly reducing the number of out-of-school children at the pre-primary, primary, and lower secondary levels. #GirlChild #educationForAll

School exclusions are at record-breaking levels, with the equivalent of 4100 children being excluded every day. New data from the Department for Education reveals that temporary suspensions and permanent expulsions have soared to record levels in 2023/24 - with the most vulnerable children at greatest risk of falling out of school and losing out on education. The Who’s Losing Learning Coalition – an alliance of Impetus, IPPR, The Difference, and Mission 44 – has come together to analyse the scale and impact of lost learning. "We urgently need to take action to reduce preventable exclusions and support schools to ensure every child can learn and succeed," said Steven Haines, our Director of Public Affairs. Findings highlight the urgent need for action: https://lnkd.in/ediivGWe #Education #Exclusions??

Today's Advocacy April spotlight reveals a critical statistic: 10% of children in Illinois live in a household headed by an adult without a high school diploma. This fact isn't just a number—it highlights the interconnectedness of education and child well-being. How is this important? ???????? Family Stability: Educational attainment is strongly linked to economic stability. Adults with high school diplomas are more likely to secure stable, well-paying jobs, providing a more secure environment for children. ?? Educational Aspirations: Children in households where education is valued are more likely to pursue and achieve higher educational goals themselves, setting a positive cycle of learning and opportunity. ?? Community Impact: By supporting adult education, we contribute not only to individual advancement but also to the nurturing of future generations. Investing in adult education is an investment in community resilience and future potential. This statistic underscores the urgent need for accessible adult education programs. #AdvocacyApril #AdultEducation #FamilyLiteracy Erin Vobornik Coalition on Adult Basic Education

"State lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, including several on a critical education reform committee, say they're committed to seeking solutions to help ensure some of North Carolina's most vulnerable students get the public education they're constitutionally guaranteed." Suspensions and expulsions often occur due to a lack of adequate services and supports to meet students' needs. No educator wants to resort to expulsion; it often happens as a last resort due to staffing shortages and inadequate training. We must invest in more school social workers and counselors. Suspensions and expulsions harm both the student and the school. Students miss out on vital education opportunities and school communities miss their important contributions. We should explore alternative support mechanisms that benefit everyone. Read more https://bit.ly/48oSHYL #School #Suspention #DisabilityRIghts ID: Silhouettes of kids on swings.
