In the past month, I've engaged in discussions about #retailgrowth with industry leaders and came across a compelling article by Professor Gary Pisano on #hbr.org about #sustainablegrowth titled "Why leaders should take a strategic perspective" (highly recommend reading it). There's a noticeable trend where brands expand their direct-to-consumer (DTC) presence during high-demand periods and retract during slower times. This strategy is akin to buying shares when they're high and selling when they're low, contrary to what wise investors do on Wall Street. However, the #roleofdtc is pivotal in this decision-making process. Brands seeing DTC as primarily an opportunistic revenue stream may find the former strategy appropriate. Conversely, for Brands focused on enhancing their strenght through physical environments, exceptional customer service, and a unique digital ecosystem, the latter approach may be more fitting. Therefore, expanding DTC presence during demand surges and prioritising exceptional customer service during peak periods may better align with the need to build demand and foster loyal consumers.
