This entire team is in-office this week, plus one new team member, and just like that, we've officially outgrown our conference room for our weekly staff meeting. Somehow I knew this team photo we took a few months ago wouldn't stay relevant for long. But it happened for a very good reason. Earlier this month we welcomed Jared Fry onto the team as a senior software engineer. If you operate in the world of software development, you know that this role is a difficult hire. (Thank you to all 999 recruiters who responded to our job posting, I feel and respect your hustle.) It's hard to find people who can translate business requirements into software, especially with #payments industry experience. It's harder to find people who build it the right way, which isn't usually the easy way. And it's even harder to find people who are just as passionate about the outcome as their stakeholders. So how did we find Jared? Because of me? Because of Kevin? Because he heard all sorts of great things about Secure Bancard? I'd love to tell you it was all these, but in fact, it was none of these. When I asked Jared about what excited him most about this role, it was working with and learning from our CTO, Billy Boozer. This is the snowball effect of a good core team. Hire well, and the magnetism of incredible talent will multiply. Jared is smart. He is determined. He came on in the thick of some very big projects that might be scary to the average bear. But Jared is not a bear. He is a Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket, and for that and many other reasons, we know he's going to be just fine. When to make your first support hire? Here's how I knew it was our time: Founder-led support wasn't cutting it anymore. Our attention was split between support, product, and growth. Basic metrics were slipping. Response times grew. Customer satisfaction dipped. We were losing valuable insights. Customer feedback wasn't making it into our product roadmap. And so, we hired a support generalist. Not just a ticket-solver, but someone who could: -Manage the queue efficiently -Work cross-functionally with product and engineering -Turn customer insights into product improvements We looked for experience in early-stage startups, ability to thrive in ambiguity, and a strong advocate for customers Don't wait until you're drowning in tickets. Hire just ahead of the pain point. Your first support hire might be the most important product decision you make this year.

I uploaded a Product Team hiring post yesterday evening and have received 80+ applications by far. One catch in this was that you need to send a video on why do you want to apply for this role for brownie points. Surprisingly, out of those 80 applications, only 1 person sent me the video on why do they want to apply at Reelo. I have one suggestion, candidates: if you want the recruiter to notice you, please ensure that you are applying the right way. That 1 application caught my eye out of the several people who applied, and I have given them the next steps!
