Monday Musings: Cabin Fever. Only During the past 15 years or so has the majority of active Mobile Telecoms equipment been waterproof and relatively compact. Prior to that the cabinets – and technicians – needed somewhere warm and dry to work. As you can see from the shiny green retrofitted ventilation – warm is the operative word! Most are pretty compact, and fading paint means that they’re relatively inconspicuous. I talked about colour a couple of weeks ago and the light-grey antennas recently fitted here would have been almost invisible with a less stormy sky. And the older antenna to the left’s patina verges on camouflage. Great article by Command Access Technologies on the challenges of strikes. Now that I have learned about MLRKs (motorized latch retraction kits) for exit devices, electrified cylinder locks, and electrified mortise locks; I don't understand how strikes are still so widely used. Have you ever come across a door that has an exit device and someone cut the frame and installed a strike? It drives me crazy when it see that.
