Join Building Impact in fighting against summer hunger for families in need by contributing to their Summer Food Drive. In Massachusetts, 36% of surveyed households with children reported that their child is food insecure. With summer break coming up for kids, many families who rely on school-provided breakfasts and lunches may be struggling to purchase food. 100% of all donations will go to their three partners: Action for Boston Community Development, Inc. (ABCD), Boston Medical Center (BMC)'s Preventative Food Pantry, and People Helping People, Inc. - Burlington MA to help deliver meals. Nonprofits do “profit” citizens, communities and cultures in numerous ways. Nonprofits are there to source relief organizations, scholarship initiatives, free clinics and literacy programs. Are there to preserve a city’s historical assets, civic treasures and environmental aesthetics. Are there to promote and to ensure the progress of grassroots causes—in your neighborhood and mine too. Are there to answer our calls…fill in our gaps…elevate our understanding of what matters most. Are there enriching, enhancing and expanding the goodwill, good sense, good deeds and good faith already present in society. And in doing this, nonprofits profit all. Upholding what is most necessary, noble and nonnegotiable for all. Another thought from my “A Sector of Better Angels” series.

The nonprofit world is perpetually short of resources, volunteers, and support. To succeed, we always need to be brainstorming opportunities to improve operations and stretch the resources we have. But when fighting hunger, we risk sacrificing dignity in favor of efficiency. Fatherhood engagement is much more than outreach or marketing. Father-inclusive practice recognizes the crucial role fathers play in their children's lives, and proactively engages and supports them in the parenting process. In turn, it benefits children, families, and communities. I'm always heartened when companies and groups ask how they can help Feed More this time of year. For teams looking for a way to engage here are a few ideas... Food Drive Competition - By team, by floor, by department. Because of the ever-evolving supply chain, shelf-stable items are in high demand. Our donation door is open for extended hours during the holidays! (feedmore.org) Year-End Budget Surplus - Many companies have a use-it-or-lose-it approach. Have a little extra budget at year-end? Invest in the community through a special gift or purchase to help provide food to our community. Consider sponsoring one of our key programs. Mid-winter volunteering - We LOVE volunteers! Volunteers make up 2/3rds of the Feed More team. Consider signing up and locking in for January and February shifts now.
