I am a Senior Business Intelligence Analyst, or at least that's what they call me. Different companies seem to have varying ideas about the role. Some think we create visualizations using #Tableau or #PowerBI, others believe we mainly handle #SQL queries and #ETL, while some just want us to keep the IT desk going. The job titles for roles like mine can range from Business Intelligence Analyst to Business Analyst to Data Analyst and more. HR sure has an interesting way of defining our work. ?? #BusinessIntelligence #DataAnalysis #ITDesk #JobTitles

Kierra out here always giving solid advice! It’s all about laying the groundwork step-by-step.
If you don't have any coding skills + aren’t too tech savvy, I think the easiest way to get into data is to start as a business analyst and then skill up to data analyst. You can incorporate dashboards into your work as you get more comfortable and then slide to a data analyst role As a business analyst, you’ll pick up business acumen, get used to working with different teams, play around with data, gain familiarity with making insights and suggestions…it’s a perfect layup to becoming a data analyst. Some BAs actually use BI tools on the job. #dataanalyst #businessanalyst #tableau

Business owners please stop doing this! ?? Recently, someone shared their experience of being offered a “Data Analyst/Data Engineer” role. The responsibilities included: Data analysis and visualization (Power BI, Tableau) Database management and optimization ETL process development Data warehousing Machine learning model building Report automation Stakeholder communication AND MORE... all for one person with just 2-3 years of experience! ?? This isn’t a “Data Analyst” or “Data Engineer” role, it’s a team’s worth of responsibilities squeezed into one. It’s unrealistic to expect someone to master everything. SQL, Python, Power BI, database architecture, machine learning, ETL pipelines, data governance, and cloud infrastructure. That’s SEVEN different roles, not one! Let’s stop expecting one person to be an expert in every aspect of data work. Specialists in each area bring true value and deserve focused roles with fair compensation. #DataAnalytics #DataEngineers #Hiring #DataJobs

#BusinessAnalyst #DataAnalyst #TechSkills #SQL #PowerBI #BusinessStrategy #DataDriven ?? Business Analyst (BA): We’re the connectors between business needs and technology solutions. Our focus is on business problems, requirements gathering, and improving processes. We translate business goals into solutions that work for the company. Think strategy, process optimization, and stakeholder management. BUT – and here’s where it gets interesting – the role of a Business Analyst has evolved. Today, a solid understanding of SQL, PowerBI, and databases is becoming more of a must-have. We often dive into data ourselves to better inform decision-making or to validate business cases. Domain knowledge across industries like finance, HR, IT, or supply chain is also essential. So, while we aren’t Data Analysts, we definitely need a working knowledge of these tools and technologies to be more effective. ?? Data Analyst (DA): These experts live and breathe data. They analyze datasets, spot trends, and help businesses answer the “why” behind their numbers. They’re knee-deep in data mining, SQL queries, visualization tools like Tableau or PowerBI, and pulling insights to guide business decisions. Think insights, patterns, and data-driven decisions. So yes, the lines blur a little, especially as Business Analysts need more technical knowledge these days. But the core distinction remains: Business Analysts are focused on business solutions, while Data Analysts are focused on data insights. At the end of the day, both roles are critical, but they serve different purposes. It’s all about bringing the right skill set to the right problem. Thoughts? ?? Let’s discuss how these roles have evolved!
