By including the Medbright AI technology, Numinus will eliminate administrative headaches while providing psychedelic-assisted therapy using a methodology that Numinus developed over its years of operating clinics. This is particularly important in the reimbursement process in U.S.-based clinics. This alliance seeks to make therapy more accessible with more therapists able to provide care and not be tied up in administrative tasks. Had a blast representing Deerfield Management and ConcertoCare last Tuesday on a panel at the HealthNext Conference sponsored by Cornell Tech in New York! The discussion was on “Investing in a Brave New World: The Generative AI Revolution and Beyond” moderated by Ian Chiang, a partner at Flare Capital Partners. It was an honor to share the stage with Chelsea Clinton, co-founder & partner at Metrodora Ventures and vice chair of the Clinton Foundation, and Daisy Wolf, partner at Andreessen Horowitz. It was exciting to hear about Daisy’s optimism for the role of #genai, particularly in the BH space, and to hear Chelsea’s enthusiasm for investment opportunities in pediatrics and her global perspective on the opportunity for #genai to help improve access to care in resource poor countries. During the panel, I discussed how companies like ConcertoCare and Somatus are using #genai to help manage complex polychronic patients (Concerto) and complex kidney care patients (Somatus). Lark Health a foundational AI-company, is deploying GenAI to support digital chronic condition management, including for patients taking #GLP1s. Cohere Health, also a foundational AI-company, is deploying GenAI to improve the quality of care and to help streamline the prior authorization process for patients, providers, and plans. We also discussed the importance of ensuring that focus remains on addressing the potential of #genai to exacerbate inequities in health care related to race and ethnicity and to develop and execute against mitigation strategies. In addition, we explored the importance of ensuring that as we celebrate efficiency gains from genAI, we also collectively commit to ensuring that workforce implications are considered and addressed through workforce development efforts that help to prepare people to leverage AI-based tools. *ConcertoCare, Somatus, Lark Health, and Cohere Health are #DeerfieldManagement Portfolio Companies.

Have you ever been afraid to move your body after an injury as a result of pain or fear of worsening the injury? That's called "kinesiophobia", according to Ross Zafonte, President of Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, and machine learning could be a remedy. More AI research needs to be dedicated to physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) Zafonte said in his keynote at #AICures2024. In 2023, a record high of 56% physicians in their final year of residency training were contacted by recruiters over 100 times, the highest number since 1991. With a population of over 85-year-olds expected to triple in the U.S. by 2050, the existing PM&R shortfall must be urgently addressed. During his keynote, Zafonte spoke about the importance of machine learning not just in offering precision therapy, but also for scaling therapeutic practice. He highlighted robotic-assisted therapies and video tracking techniques as new ways ML has been used in rehabilitation medicine, noting that the remote flexibility of these approaches could significantly benefit patients who are kinesiophobic. #OccupationalHealthMonth #aiforgood #aiforhealth #healthcareinnovation
