What is your best tip for speaking on stage or in front of an audience? ?? Yup, looking for your "Wisdom Wednesday" comments and tips below! I'm about to take the stage to kick off the Reuters Flagship conference, Supply Chain Execution 2022 in Chicago at Marriott Marquis today! Took this picture to remind myself...just be me ??...#BehindTheScenes #leadership #supplychain #business #markets
If I am sitting down it's alot less nerve wracking then being on stage behind a podium. I can concentrate on just asking questions and making the other person feel comfortable. I can't wait to hear what Reuters is saying about SC execution in 2022.
Ryan, Having spoken a few times in public to varying sizes and variety of audiences, the most critical factor in all public speaking is the following: You must be heard! If the audience cannot hear what you are saying, it does not matter how fantastic or great your presentation or thoughts are, it will not matter! A vital second point is always be able to to give a presentation (or be prepared to) without the aid of visual aids and or PowerPoint etc. Contrary to popular belief, visual aids are not films and do not give themselves You give the presentation. I cannot count the amount of times that technological issues have been a major issue and often and large conferences. Nothing wrong with having support material, but it should be and is just that. Finally most great speakers build their presentation around a narrative story, sometimes several. This is the glue that will hold your message together. Most people have the capacity to remember the story if indeed they do little else. Enjoy my friend. - Rolfe
Reframe nervousness as excitement to be there. Plus, everyone wants you to be successful when you speak!
On top of all of the things that have already been said, I tend to calm my nerves with one simple question. “What’s the worst that can happen?” If I give a terrible speech am I going to die? Nope! I think I’ll be alright then. That helps calm my nerves which in turn, makes for a better presentation of the speech. Also, preparation. Lots of preparation! Knowing my material boosts my confidence.
If you aren't feeling nervous, then you aren't present. I teach this in all of my improv acting classes when working with speakers. The more confident you are, the more you are just reading a script that you feel is safe for the audience.
I took forensics in high school and public speaking in college - Despite being introverted, it's something I greatly enjoy. At the end of the day, I remind myself 2 things - - Make someone laugh at least once. - They're people, and they're here because they want to hear you!
Love public speaking! I like to ‘walk the stage’ & sit in the auditorium before the event starts to get comfortable in the space without anyone around. The audience wants to hear your story, something interesting or surprising. Remember when supply chain was boring? Not anymore! Wish I could be a fly ??on the wall… #publicspeakingtips #supplychain #shareyourknowledge
I always like to kick off with a quote, data point, or question for the audience - that short piece of interaction tends to settle the nerves and generate interest/attention.
Be there for the audience, to be helpful, selflessly, as you always do, and enjoy the show together with them.

2 年Wear clothing that makes you feel confident, but also comfortable. I have a hard time getting into the speaking zone if I'm concerned about something I'm wearing. #sensoryissues Eat something familiar so your system doesn't react to new foods being introduced. It might be a bit TMI, but when you're at a hotel and you get excited to eat something you don't normally get at home, it can mess with you! Especially if you're prone to nerves. ??
