When we as musical artists and performing arts organizations consider our target audiences, it is critical that we clearly understand the value of our product. A key component of our value proposition, as Yo-Yo Ma, the neurologist and author Oliver Sacks and U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy have articulated, is connection: connection to something larger than ourselves, to profound emotions, to each other, and as Jeremy Eichler posits in his acclaimed new book, Times Echo, connection to events, people and places in history. Music creates connection within and between us in a way that few other art forms can. Developing best practices and competencies in order to create and enhance connection is key to attracting, engaging and retaining the audiences we wish to have.

Especially in the realms of disability or inclusive practice in music, digital or performing arts? Can you wonderful people point me in the direction of some examples of best practices and leading organisations in these fields?

Always been fascinated by ASL/LIS and so on languages (300 and more or so they say). Yes, deafness is, well, terrible. In life there are too many terrible things you can’t get past, so seeing that Deaf people get past it and not just that, is a source of inspiration for me. And not just because they got past it, because the truth is, they didn’t get past it, they actually go through it, in thriving. The one who get past of it probably it's me, who actually sees it as just another form of language, of Culture,?very kin to a form of art, obscure as it may seem, as any form of art, to a certain extent. So that’s where the inspiration comes from. And yes. Being it also a trademark of human tenacity. And an example of expanding your boundaries, of changing your perspective and so much more. But I got a bit carried away so I'll leave it for another day.

#EthicalCommentary For those, who are incapable of grasping the concept of Standard, observe ASL - a Standard! It doesn't matter where one is from; Ethnicity, Culture, Religion or Spoken Language; Sign Languages the same for every Nation on Earth. Sign Language leads to an understanding that no other Language can attain. Now, if we, as a Species could do the same with the Ethical Standards, Legal Standards; Professional Standards, in fact any and every so called Standards claimed as Institutionalized!
