Abuse by a boss usually happens when you're alone. They show their true colors when no one else is in the room - in corporate America, this often happens as a drastic change in deliverables (that are usually unreasonable) without documenting anything. It feels gross to document conversations. It feels adversarial. And sometimes it's necessary. You need to protect yourself in these situations because the laws and practices often won't if you don't have any documentation to support. It'll be your word against theirs.
