Tomorrow is WORLD DAY OF MUSIC ???? ?? ?? ?? ?? ?? ... and at Tape Ark | Global Experts in Tape to Cloud Migration - we celebrate our role in recovering and transferring priceless music data for some of the world’s biggest entertainment companies, including the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ?? Late in 2019, Tape Ark completed the data recovery and cloud ingest of a critical piece of the world’s music heritage – the back catalog of concert video and interviews accumulated by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - aka Rock Hall - in Cleveland, Ohio. The archive comprised 2,800 hours of preservation quality video, trapped in failing magnetic tapes. When approached by the Rock Hall, Guy C. Holmes, could not resist the urge to get involved. He said, “it was because they had a problem that I knew we could solve, and the data was a significant part of global music history.” The Rock Hall is on a mission to engage, teach and inspire through the power of ROCK! The Rock Hall contains thousands of items of memorabilia from every era and genre of rock and roll, and millions of documents, audio recordings, photographs and video files. The Rock Hall wanted to make this treasure trove more widely available to fans and scholars, so it established a Library & Archives Department, which includes an on-site digitisation and conservation lab. The department’s main aim is to collect, preserve and provide access to the Rock Hall’s archival material, including master files of induction ceremonies, B roll, oral histories, artist interviews, symposiums on music and original concerts, in a centralised digital media repository.
