This year for our holiday celebration, our team volunteered at Our Big Kitchen Los Angeles to cook meals for community members in need. The experience was incredibly rewarding as we got to spend time together and share our appreciation for one another while preparing meals and giving back to the community. Our team is dedicated to supporting UCLA Anderson’s MBA students, recruiting partners, and the community that surrounds us, and we are grateful to be able to do so. We wish you a happy and safe holiday season! Special shout-outs to Jessica Christopher for bringing this idea to our team and Hannah S. Cowherd for organizing a wonderful picnic for our team to follow the volunteer event.

It's National Volunteer Appreciation Week, a celebration placing the spotlight on inspiring figures whose invaluable seeds of kindness through volunteering are bettering the community and our world in general. Ideas to Observe National Volunteer Week: - Get involved: Do more than applaud; let your impact be felt. Look around your own community to find various ways in which you can lend your support. - Spread the Word: Volunteers are often overlooked. Be part of the movement to call on more volunteers by using your social media handles to share the message. - Say Thank You: Appreciating volunteers goes a long way to making them feel good about their impact and driving them to do more.

Join the conversation!
As National Volunteer Week comes to a close, I want to express my gratitude to all the volunteers out there. Whether you volunteer formally or informally, your contribution to making our communities better is invaluable. Thank you for all that you do! If you're passionate about advocating for volunteerism, consider joining me and a group of volunteers for an online workshop. Together with Robert Connell, Marla Pender, Kirsten Carr and Jane Hennig we'll discuss what collaborating towards advocating for volunteerism could look like. The workshop will take place on Tuesday, April 30th at 7 pm EDT, and is open to anyone with an interest in volunteerism. You can sign up through Eventbrite (link in comments below) and the Zoom link will be provided upon registration. Let's continue to work together to make our communities even better!

April 14-20 is National Volunteer Week. I have volunteered as long as I can remember, along side my Mom & Grandma. In turn, my daughter was volunteering beside my Mom & I by the time she was 3. Being a volunteer helps: - Make our Communities better - Helps build relationships/friendships - Helps build skills - Helps you do jobs you wouldn’t normally have access to doing So my question is this: How do you volunteer? What other items would you add to my list?

April is National Volunteer Month (in the US). Here are 9 simple prompts to tell your volunteer stories. April is a fitting time to celebrate and recognize the contributions of those who give time, ideas, talent, and energy to our organization. And the impact they make on your community. You may be hosting a volunteer appreciation event or sending hand-written thank yous. Consider also highlighting the stories of volunteers in your force by asking one of these 9 simple prompts: 1. What first inspired you to volunteer with our mission? 2. What one memory or moment of volunteering sticks out most? 3. Recall the first time you volunteered. How did it make you feel? 4. Describe in 3 words what being a part of our organization means to you. 5. How has your life been impacted by volunteering with our organization?? 6. Share your favorite project you worked on or fundraiser you organized. 7. What’s the biggest impact you think our work will have in 10 years? 8. What's the biggest hope you have for our community? 9. Why is our mission meaningful to you? Then ask staff to share what they appreciate most about the volunteers who support your mission. Turn these into beautiful video compilations. Ask 10 people to say "thank you" and weave them all together into one piece. Shower volunteers with an extra dose of love and showcase your mission at the same time. #volunteers?#nationalvolunteermonth?#storytelling

So proud of Patricia Cameron and what she's achieving with Blackpackers ! "the nonprofit Blackpackers aims to serve underrepresented communities by teaching outdoor skills like wilderness first aid, providing low-cost or free gear and excursions, and creating networking opportunities in the outdoor industry. Among its programs, the group has partnered with Arapahoe Basin for four years to extend free lift tickets, half-day lessons, gear and clothing to participants in ski and ride days. Between 300 and 400 people sign up every year, though Blackpackers can take only up to 70 per day." https://lnkd.in/ge475fY2

Thriving and vibrant regional communities are at the heart of our mission. Our communities hold a deep understanding of their own needs, but capacity, resources, and skills can sometimes slow progress. With support from Emergency Recovery Victoria (ERV) and the FRRR (Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal) f, we partnered with Into Our Hands Community Foundation to deliver the GROW Volunteering Program—a 12-month initiative that reached close to 50 groups across four local government areas, supporting them to tackle challenges head-on. The program offered two distinct yet complementary streams: Five skills-building webinars that drew over 150 participants, equipping them with practical tools and strategies. And, access to a skilled volunteer resource officer, Susan Benedyka, who worked directly with groups, providing tailored support to meet their specific needs — catering to everything from strategic planning, volunteer engagement and retention, to succession planning and resource utilisation. You can read the full outcomes report here, including case studies from Wangaratta Baseball Softball Sports Club, Merton Recreation and Memorial Hall Reserve Committee, and Mt Beauty Neighbourhood Centre: https://lnkd.in/gfZ_Ay9V

Investing in the regions strengthens the future of our nation as a whole. A growing cohort of people call regional and rural Australia home, and contribute significantly to our national economy through vital industries such as agriculture, resources, manufacturing, and tourism. Our regions are integral to shaping a thriving, connected Australia, and it is paramount that the individuals and groups within them are supported to build capacity, adapt to challenges, and seize opportunities for stabilisation and revitalisation. Community groups - such as sporting clubs, hall committees, environmental organisations, and more - are a key piece of the puzzle, serving as the backbone of many townships. In today’s landscape, where volunteerism is declining and resources are often limited, it is imperative these groups are supported to sustain their efforts, adapt to changing circumstances, and continue delivering meaningful contributions to their communities. FRRR (Foundation for Rural & Regional Renewal) are very much at the forefront of this work, exemplifying the power and value of investing in the regions. In partnership with Emergency Recovery Victoria, FRRR supported us to collaborate with Into Our Hands Community Foundation to deliver the GROW Volunteering program. Through this program, we were able to support community groups to thrive, create positive change, and strengthen the fabric of our regional areas as flourishing places to live, work, and play.

This Volunteers’ Week, we’re highlighting our Older People’s Services (OPS) and the many, rewarding ways that volunteers can get involved with this area of our work. Glenda, our Director for Older People’s Services, (pictured top left) shares more: “Volunteers can help to connect an older person with their community and create meaningful relationships that they would otherwise miss out on. They enable us to provide the variety and level of care and support that we do and without them, we would be so much poorer and as a result so would the older people in our communities.” There are so many practical ways that volunteers can help older people to experience a rich and full life be that in our residential home or our Churches some examples are: - Craft and hobby-based clubs e.g. book clubs - Lunch clubs and CAMEO clubs (come and meet each other) - Our community choirs or singing by heart (our dementia friendly singing programme) - Day trips, outings or assisting somebody to go on a short walk - Reading to people, sitting and chatting to them and spending time with them.
