Today is so special in college volleyball. It is a day we all hoped we would be around to see happen. ?Not only will we have a woman winning the D1 AVCA Volleyball Championship for the first time ever. ?Not only do we have two female head coaches playing each other in the championship for the first time ever. ?Not only have both of them have won national championships as players. ? Not only is one of the coaches actively going through chemo for cancer. We are seeing history happen. This is truly #herstory. This is #historyinthemaking. This is why we need women coaching women. This is why we need representation. This is why we need to see women in leadership. 2024 has been about women's sports. It has shown the importance of women's sports. The importance of women coaches. The importance of women's media rights. The importance of women being at prime time on tv. The importance of women's sports getting money. The importance of women being physical, aggressive, loud, strong, tall, or muscular. But most importantly women being treated with the respect as the coaches or athletes they are.

‘We are better together’ this deeply held belief is at the heart of Dorothy Okatch and Deanna Jackson's ability to work together. Twin #basketball referees they take turns to be the #lead or the trail referees (a basketball match needs both). Listening to them throws the theory that women don’t work well together into irrelevance. Dorothy Okatch is a FIBA International Referee for both traditional basketball and for 3 x 3 basketball. She got her traditional basketball license in 2014 and her 3x3 license in 2020. Dorothy has officiated various national, regional and international competitions such as the Olympics, World Cups, AfroBasket and the Basketball Africa League. ? Deanna Jackson is entering her 14th season as a basketball official. She currently officiates in the NCAA Division 1 Women's Basketball. She has worked in multiple conference tournaments and two NCAA tournaments. Together, we explored critical strategies to address the current landscape and issues surrounding gender equity in coaching, discussed policies that support women coaches, and shared actionable steps to get more women into the coaching pipeline, and keep them there!?? ? As we celebrate our 50th year, this convening marks an important moment in our ongoing work to break down barriers and create a more equitable sports landscape for girls and women.
